"I appeal to you therefore, brothers & sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy & acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship" (Romans 12:1 NRSV).
I just finished a major detox. I feel like I woke up from the dead & walked out of hell. My arthritis has disappeared & I have regained my sense of smell. After experimenting with clay, I have come to the following conclusions:
1. The use of clay for external detoxing is pointless unless you have huge amounts of it (like a clean riverbank, if there is such a thing anymore) or are using it as a poultice to rid yourself of tumors or skin rashes.
2. Bentonite clay is a must for any kind of detox program (taken internally). It prevents toxins that are released through detoxing from being reabsorbed by your body. I found that I could take it without getting constipated as long as I mixed it with Metamucil.
After much trial, error, & research, I have come up with a yearly nutritional/detox program (no doubt I will improve it as I learn more about detoxing). Here is the basic program (done each spring & fall):
The Major Detox
Meals:
Breakfast: Fruit juice (blended fruit with water and honey) with vitamins (A, B, C, D, calcium, magnesium, zinc)
Lunch: Vegetable juice (blended veggies with water, raw garlic, herbs & spices) with whole grain bread (with butter or olive oil if you must) or some other kind of starch
Supper: 4 Ounces protein (preferably plant, egg, fish, or white meat) plus a large amount of veggies lightly steamed (no pasta, potatoes or other starches)
I'm trying to eat like this all year round, varying my choices of fruit, veggies, bread, & proteins as much as possible.
Drink:
Stir 1 teaspoon Metamucil, 1 tablespoon Bentonite & 1 tablespoon olive oil into a glass of water (if using tap water, filter it through charcoal). Drink this at least 1 hour before each meal during a major detox, as this mixture soaks up everything, including nutrients. Drink an additional 6-8 cups of plain water/day.
I drink about 8 cups water/day all year round. I found drinking more or less will burden the kidneys.
Internal Detox: There are a number of herbal detox kits sold in health food stores. The one I use does not allow yogurt or bread to be eaten while taking their herbs. Instead of using a herbal detox kit, one could do a “juice fast,” drinking only fruit/veggie juices and water for a 1 week period.
External Detox: This can be done each day of the year, but doing these to the point of stressing out your body is unhealthy and counterproductive. I found the steamroom to be much more effective at removing toxins than hot baths (with or without clay). There seems to be a consensus among health professionals that the sauna is the best means of drawing fat/water soluble toxins through the pores of your skin (preferably made from poplar wood and equipped with far infrared lighting). It is also a good idea to have a water bottle with you to replenish the water lost while doing the external detox.

I have done a number of cleansing exercises over the years, but this last one has been by far the most effective. After this last detox, I have come to equate toxin with sin, for I found that toxins have the ability to poison one's very thoughts, along with the body.
I can't imagine continuing my spiritual walk without making the effort to properly nourish my body & to cleanse myself of the pollution that seaps into my body each day.
I would like to hear about other people's experiences with detox, be these physical or spiritual. This is not the last word on detox by any means. Each day I discover new insights into spiritual & physical health.
If any of this has served to enrich your physical or spiritual well being, I am truly blessed.
I pray that God's wisdom would lead lead his children out the misery and suffering that plagues us all.
