clearly in scripture the commandments were meant to teach us right from wrong. in scripture we find more meaning to what laws really are. spiritual law
for us to clothe ourselves.

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Righteousness is repeated throughout the Bible so many times. The word would keep popping out at me until I realized I didn't have a good grip on what it entailed. And then it always seemed so far away from me, that I had messed up so badly I could not dream of pursuing such a quality. But satan had put that thought in my head. I see that clearly now.
Here is the beginning of my pursuit of righteousness. Please feel free to comment. In fact I could use a good definition as I had found one in a friend's book that was most excellent but did not copy it down!
Here's what God's Word says about it (NIV):

Matt. 6:33 "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

(The bolding and underlining are my own way of highlighting things).

Gen. 15:6 "Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness."

1 Sam. 26:23 "The Lord rewards every man for his righteousness and faithfulness."

Ps. 9:8 "He will judge the world in righteousness."

Ps. 23:3 "He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake."

Ps. 45:7 "You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy."

Ps. 85:10 "Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other."

We are all still learning. God is the best teacher. The Holy Spirit will guide you through the Bible, helping you identify scriptures that you need at that moment and helping you gain a greater understanding of them.
