Actually, royals and the nobility -- at least the men -- seem to have committed adultery with impunity. For common people, however, penalties could be pretty fierce. From the 11th century, an adulterer was subject to having his (or more likely her) ears and nose cut off. In the 17th century, Cromwell introduced the death penalty for adultery. Sometimes, the old ways aren't so good.njcl said:i believe in middle age england if you were caught commiting adultery you were locked in stocks in the middle of town for your shame to be known to all,i think there were not many people who reoffended...........the old ways are the best sometimes

Great idea! Not only will it benefit the Church but also...possibly....teach these morons how their deeds hurt real people by having them interact with the Priest and parishioners.lakesidelady said:perhaps community service --- janitorial services for that church?

The rest of us dont acknowledge holy water as anything but just water..
I urinate in water every day, you dont see me being arrested.
Yitzchak said:The cost of the damages is estimated at 17,000 dollars. It was more than just urinating in "holy water"...they broke into a church and ruined the carpet amongst other things. They are being charged with vandelism, burglary and criminal mischief.
I am inclined however to agree with the poster who said this is a bit of an extreme punishment for a crime where no violence was committed. Property damage can be fixed or replaced.
When I was growing up, people used to tell me " two wrongs don't make a right." When I grew up and got converted, I read in the bible that God says vengance is His and not to repay evil for evil. I am consistently grieved over sentiment that calls for harsh punishment of social crimes in the States. Grace triumphs over mercy is another scripture that comes to mind......If these angry young people can't find grace from the church, where can they find it?
I wish it were possible with every church...but my church is so large that I don't think keeping the doors open 24/7 would be a good idea.anglicancrusader said:Another local Episcopal church keeps their doors opened 24/7, and I don't think they've had much of a vandalism problem.
Respect for our right to worship, our right to property, and our right to be free from crime are what we should demand from our society's members. These kids should be forgiven. But they must be held accountable for their actions. Punishment is what is needed. Christ never said that wicked behavior was to be condoned. Some people think the Golden Rule implies this. We are to forgive others who transgress against us or society. We are not to hide or shelter them from the consequenses of their actions. We are to show mercy. But we are not to be spinelessWolf Georges said:I just don't understand what goes through a person's head to make them do things like this. "Hey, let's go smash up a Church and pee in the Holy Water." or "Let's go paint swastikas on the side of a Temple". It's really beyond me. I mean....I don't condone stealing but at least you get something out of it. What do you get from this other than destroying and hurting? Very upsetting story.
Really? oh manYou must spread some Reputation around before giving it to karenmarie again.
