Rochir said:I wouldn't call them criminals, but that surely is disgusting behavior! MAybe bootcamp would be good for them![]()
Holly3278 said:They are criminals. I don't know where you live but in the United States, vandalism is a CRIME!
Rochir said:I lived on the East coast for a long time... Urinating into holy water is despicable and really not nice, but it is no crime. How does it help anyone to criminalize stupidity?
From The Article said:Four local teens have been charged with that and other vandalism.
Holly3278 said:If it's not a crime then why are they being charged with a crime?
Rochir said:MAybe because the laws in this case are a bit extreme? For me this doesn't constitute a crime, sorry if I disagree with you and the law!![]()
Holly3278 said:The laws aren't extreme in this case. The laws are right. This was a criminal act and the perpetrators deserve justice. A few months in jail and a hefty fine would serve them well.
Rochir said:You want to place people in JAIL for doing a silly ill-advised prank??? Do you have any idea what jail does to people? They come out real criminals!![]()
Westvleteren said:Holly's right: It's a crime. It has nothing to do with sacrilege and everything do with the fact that the boys destroyed something that wasn't theirs to destroy.
I live in a city that just saw a group of teenaged boys throw a bottle rocket into the cab of a tanker truck; it exploded in the driver's face, shattering part of his skull, then when the rig wrecked, they pulled the already brain-injured man out, beat, kicked and robbed him. Afterward, they climbed up on his overturned rig and danced. The man's truck was his livelihood, so that's gone now, even if he does recover from this horrible ordeal to ever drive again. Thoroughly sickening incident.
So I'm feeling a little harsh about kids reaching an age where they can do some real damage without being taught the difference between right and wrong and a respect for other people's rights. I might feel more lenient later, but right now, I'm in a "prosecute 'em" kind of mood.![]()
Holly3278 said:You don't realize the seriousness of this crime apparently. They desecrated a holy place!
Grl4Christ987 said:Amen. They should be punished for that. What if someone desecrated your home or your bedroom? I'm sure you would want to press charges on them wouldn't you?
(Well, that's where we diverge, Holly -- I'm a traditional conservative: In my view, a property crime is a property crime. But we agree on the fundamentals...)Holly3278 said:Yes I would. But this was a holy place which makes it all the more worse.
