  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Yup, i'm currently using that one. Poor baby is a lazy eater so I have to pump if he only does short 'birdie' type meals. (5-15min feeds)

Helps at nighttime too...!

Maddie usually only feeds for 10 mins, she's such a pig that's how long it takes her to drain a boob!!! :yum:

Seriously, pumping really helps build your supply. I was amazed.

I have an Avent hand pump. It has been in its box for over 3 years now, and has only been out a few times. I could sit and pump for HOURS and get around 20mL. It was hard work, and totally annoying! Not worth the time and effort... then to have a baby who refused to drink it anyway!!

My sister used an electric pump in hospital when her baby was sick. She said it was pretty easy to use.

I would definitely recommend an electric pump over a manual pump, but would also advise against offering a bottle until your baby is AT LEAST 6 weeks old, as I am told that using a bottle earlier than that can lead to nipple confusion - not ideal if you want to continue to breastfeed.

How long are you at school for in between breaks? How often would it be possible to feed your baby? If lectures are only an hour or 2 at a time, I think you would probably get away with feeding during breaks.

What sort of stroller do you have? You may find that you can manage to carry plenty of gear if you have a good stroller - you can pack some stuff into the basket, hang a bag over the handles, and carry your school bag if need be.

I love talking about baby gear, so I am happy to make suggestions of suitable strollers/bags/baby gear if you like!! (and I also have an idea of what is available locally).

Hope that helps!

 Another reason why there's no rush. I will wait and see what works.

We 'inherited' a pram. It seems to have a pretty reasonable basket underneath for carrying things. Good idea! The problem with feeding between classes is mostly my dad:mad: He wants me to concentrate and so he says he won't bring baby to me while I'm in class or during breaks.:( I think I'm going to have to convince him.

Honestly... I would talk to your lecturers and ask if it would be ok to take your baby to class. A 4 week old will eat, sleep and poop, so I would be surprised if they would be too much of a distraction. If you are confident with your feeding, you would be fine up until around 12 weeks, when your baby will be more active and awake (so more of a distraction).

I got the hang of breastfeeding pretty quickly (although many people find it quite difficult at first), and was pretty confident with what I was doing. I used to amaze my friends because I could feed with one hand, and still walk around shops looking at new clothes etc :D You may find that you can manage really well with your baby in class - at least for those first few weeks (and especially if you follow a loose "eat, sleep, play" routine).

See how you go and be a bit flexible! Hopefully in between classes will be enough, because expressing (for me) was always hard work and a real pain!

What sort of pram did you inherit?

A tip for settling a tired baby is to lie them in the pram, and roll the pram backwards and forwards over a skipping rope - the "fudoomp" noise quickly sends them off to sleep! Take a rope in your bag to class with you!! :p
