OK, my wife is attending UC Davis but we are considering moving to either Pullman, WA for WSU or Corvallis, OR OSU. I've heard great things about Corvallis, but nothing about Pullman. All the photos I was able to come up with (google) were not very flattering. I just want to get an insiders opinion on the area. We're big on nature so lots of trees in town and the surrounding areas would be a plus.

Appreciate all the input you can offer.

I live in Vancouver, WA. I haven't been to Pullman much, have just passed through the area on the freeway, visited family in places like Moses Lake, Colville. Generally, Pullman is thot of as being way out in nowhere land. It's has more extreme weather than the western part of the state...hot/dry in summer, cold snowy winters. Eastern WA does have a beauty to it, but is more a high desert/plain environment. Pine trees, etc. not dense forests, etc. Of course, Pullman is almost in Idaho. Have you looked for info about Moscow ID area?

Hopefully someone can provide more info about Pullman and the community.

Of course Corvallis is very green and the area is beautiful. The Willamette valley can get hot in summer, but the winters tend to be mild. The beach is an hour away (thru the Coast Range), and the Cascades (skiing, etc) about the same. Portland is 2 hrs away. My only problem with the Willamette Valley is allergies...lots of pollen.

Good Luck!

Pullman is exceedingly boring.

You think Pullman is boring- go down the hill to Lewiston- UGH! and it is warm in the valley and getting warmer her. Time to go jump in the Snake or go to Hellsgate and go swimming.

I just flew myself to Pullman for my first time this morning. It is VERY beautiful! The airport is a little interesting as it's in a bit of a bowl... but certainly looks like a fun place. Those pictures must have been terrible if they made Pullman look unflattering!

As for trees, sure, that's the only to actually spot towns/cities in eastern Washington by air! If there are trees growing, there are people nearby! haha.

Excitement is in the eyes of the beholder. lol I'm really into radio controled hobbies, so anyplace short of Antarctica is non-boring for me. haha. There are just different things to do. It's certainly larger than Ellensburg, and this place always keeps me busy.

I'm going up there tomorrow morning, I'll bring back some pictures for you all if you'd like.

Hey cool! That'd be fun, it's a great area.

Oh heay, for those of you who live around Pullman... someone owns property around there that, from the air, looks just like an electric guitar... it's the funniest thing I"ve ever seen! haha! I flew over and took a picture today. It's this green pasture and house with trees and sticks out like a sore thumb against the tan! Pretty cool if you ask me, to own property in the shape of an instrument. :p As soon as I get enough posts I'll upload the pic. ;)

Cool- I don't know who that would be- but it must be interesting from the air.

I went to WSU for three years. I loved it there. It is indeed a college town, and pretty much anywhere on campus is accessible by walking. The campus, and most of Pullman, is on a hill, so if you don't mind the workout, it's not too bad. I loved my dorm there because it did have quite a few trees and bushes where squirls and rabbits could be found coming out of at the right time of day. I even had a sort of pet squirrel for a time that I used to give bits of crackers of nuts to.

There are things to do in Pullman, but you have to look around. Being that I was for a time a music major, I used to participate in the WSU marching band, as well as play in various combos. The Jazz combos were fun because we would go to this tavern called Rico's which had a Wednesday combo night, and on certain weekends the music professors that were mainly jazz instructors would play as well.

Also, a very scenic place is a huge park. I can't remember the name, and it can be kind of hard to find if you are new to the place. But it's worth going. Has a pond and a creek, as well as the addition of a frisbee golf course. This park is also where they have their 4th of July activities.

University of Idaho is in the closest neighboring town of Moscow. They and WSU collaborate on various things in academia, of which (if they still have it) U of I has the Classics department where one can learn both Greek and Latin if they wanted to. I personally chose the Greek, mainly because of the New Testament, as well as being interested in the Septuagint and Classical philosophers, such as Plato and Aristotle.

Anywaus, and in case you haven't checked it out yet, here is WSU's main website:

http://www.wsu.edu/

You can find links there for more local infomration. And if you go, you have to try the Cougar Cheese. ;)

John
