OK, my wife is attending UC Davis but we are considering moving to either Pullman, WA for WSU or Corvallis, OR OSU. I've heard great things about Corvallis, but nothing about Pullman. All the photos I was able to come up with (google) were not very flattering. I just want to get an insiders opinion on the area. We're big on nature so lots of trees in town and the surrounding areas would be a plus.
Appreciate all the input you can offer.
I went to WSU for three years. I loved it there. It is indeed a college town, and pretty much anywhere on campus is accessible by walking. The campus, and most of Pullman, is on a hill, so if you don't mind the workout, it's not too bad. I loved my dorm there because it did have quite a few trees and bushes where squirls and rabbits could be found coming out of at the right time of day. I even had a sort of pet squirrel for a time that I used to give bits of crackers of nuts to.
There are things to do in Pullman, but you have to look around. Being that I was for a time a music major, I used to participate in the WSU marching band, as well as play in various combos. The Jazz combos were fun because we would go to this tavern called Rico's which had a Wednesday combo night, and on certain weekends the music professors that were mainly jazz instructors would play as well.
Also, a very scenic place is a huge park. I can't remember the name, and it can be kind of hard to find if you are new to the place. But it's worth going. Has a pond and a creek, as well as the addition of a frisbee golf course. This park is also where they have their 4th of July activities.
University of Idaho is in the closest neighboring town of Moscow. They and WSU collaborate on various things in academia, of which (if they still have it) U of I has the Classics department where one can learn both Greek and Latin if they wanted to. I personally chose the Greek, mainly because of the New Testament, as well as being interested in the Septuagint and Classical philosophers, such as Plato and Aristotle.
Anywaus, and in case you haven't checked it out yet, here is WSU's main website:
http://www.wsu.edu/
You can find links there for more local infomration. And if you go, you have to try the Cougar Cheese.
