• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

PubMed is the online database of the National Library of Medicine.  You can find it at:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed

Whenever anyone makes a claim about evolution (or even physics and chemistry) this should be your first stop to check it out.
Evolution collapsing? Enter the term "evolution" and see the number of papers you get.

Beneficial mutations or gain of function mutations?  You can search both of these.

You will want to use the Boolean operators AND and NOT in order to keep from being overwhelmed with the number of articles.  Also, the "related articles" tab is extremely useful.  Find an article that is what you are looking for and hit this link. It often picks up  articles not in your original search.

All the recent articles come with abstracts and some of them link you to free complete copies of the paper.  However, most journals will ask a fee to download a copy of the paper.

Science is open to everybody. Take advantage of that.  Have fun!

DNAunion: PubMed is the standard.

Another good internet science source is WWW.BMN.COM (formerly www.BioMedNet.Com). They also have a search engine with a huge database of articles, it's free (or at least it was when I signed up a few years ago), and you can order full-text articles of interest pretty cheap.

Of course there is always PNAS (proceedings of the national academy of sciences). It's governement supported so all articles are available free online starting a month or so after publication. It's not at the same level as Science or Nature, but it is a top journal. www.pnas.org

PubMed will automatically post links to PNAS, Science, Nature, and the other online journals. Which is why I didn't list them. I figured you'd get to them through PubMed.

BTW, there is no way to "judge" between journals. I don't think any of the articles for which Nobel Prizes were awarded were published in Science. I happen to use Science and Nature when possible simply because every public library has a subscription, so it's easier for people to find. PNAS has had the problem for years that NAS members got 2 articles per year that avoided peer review. Now there are 2 tracks to PNAS -- the traditional submission by an NAS member and the more standard peer-review track.
