  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it necessary for salvation? Why does it "seem" that the invitational at the end of service is emphasized as a necessary part of salvation? So, if an unsaved person prayed the sinner's prayer and asked for salvation right now, and never stood up in front of a church or told anyone about it, would he be saved?

Standing up in front of the church and announcing your decision is not necessary, but I believe that one who is truly born again will confess their salvation to others. True salvation is not something that a person will hide. That is the purpose of baptism - it is a public confession and identification with Jesus Christ.

If one is unwilling to proclaim their salvation then I believe there is reason to question whether they are really saved.

Romans 10:9-13
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

These next 2 passages show that those who believed were immediately willing to proclaim their new-found faith with others. There was no embarrassment or shame or apprehension in standing publicly and confessing Jesus Christ before the assembly.

Acts 2:41
"Then they that gladly received his word were baptized."

Acts 8:35-39
"Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing."

Matthew 10:32-33
32Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
33But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

There are scriptures also that tell that public confession is neccessary. Yes, others will know that something has changed within us, salvation is manifest in our lifestyles and actions. But to not publicly proclaim His salvation is also a failure to acknowledge His work in our lives. There's a fine line between secrecy and denial. I have yet to know a new Christian who didn't want to shout His name and glory from the rooftop.

2 Timothy 2:12
12If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us
