what did Jesus mean when he said "ye are all Gods"?

I believe Jesus is telling us that believing in Him makes us part of Him. In other words, we are gods. Not that we are equal to Him/God, but we are gods through Him.

1 God presides in the great assembly;
he gives judgment among the "gods":

2 "How long will you [a] defend the unjust
and show partiality to the wicked?
Selah
3 Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless;
maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.
4 Rescue the weak and needy;
deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
5 "They know nothing, they understand nothing.
They walk about in darkness;
all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
6 "I said, 'You are "gods";
you are all sons of the Most High.'

7 But you will die like mere men;
you will fall like every other ruler." 8 Rise up, O God, judge the earth,
for all the nations are your inheritance.

I think the whole psalm in essence is describing how God will conquer all of the unjust(satan, demons and all the wicked men), and raise up the just and righteous.

We were created in His image and satan was cast out of heaven so all of us are eternal beings. We have the "power" to shake the foundations of the earth with our wickedness just like(or with) satan. But we also have been given the "power"(grace) to follow and be part of Christ.

Notice what Jesus says in the Gospel of John, 10...

34Jesus answered: Is it not written in your Law: I said, you are gods? So it uses the word 'gods' of those people to whom the word of God was addressed-and scripture cannot be set aside36Yet to someone whom the Father has consecrated and sent into the world you say, 'You are blaspheming' because I said, 'I am Son of God.' 37If I am not doing my Father's work, there is no need to believe me; 38but if I am doing it, then even if you refuse to believe in me, at least believe in the work I do; then you will know for certain that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.

This is an interesting passage from John 10, I believe, when Jesus references this psalm.

http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/john/john10.htm
27 My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, 13 and no one can take them out of the Father's hand. 30 14 The Father and I are one." 31 The Jews again picked up rocks to stone him. 32 Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good works from my Father. For which of these are you trying to stone me?" 33 The Jews answered him, "We are not stoning you for a good work but for blasphemy. You, a man, are making yourself God."
34 15 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your law, 'I said, "You are gods"'? 35 If it calls them gods to whom the word of God came, and scripture cannot be set aside, 36 can you say that the one whom the Father has consecrated 16 and sent into the world blasphemes because I said, 'I am the Son of God'? 37 If I do not perform my Father's works, do not believe me; 38 but if I perform them, even if you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may realize (and understand) that the Father is in me and I am in the Father."

15 [34] This is a reference to the judges of Israel who,since they exercised the divine prerogative to judge (Deut 1:17), were called "gods"; cf Exodus 21:6, besides Psalm 82:6 from which the quotation comes.

When we do the work of God, we are the hands of God. When we love people as God loves us, we become the heart of God.

The divine nature of God is in effect indivisble, for God is One. To the extent that we empty ourselves of our own nature, and become filled with the Spirit of God, and directed by the will of God, as Jesus did, there is no differentiating between our nature, and God's nature.
The fact that God's nature becomes contained within us does not take away from the fact that what we are filled with is perfectly and completely and absolutely God.

I guess I am getting too old to pump out the relevant verses first.

I can think of nothing that Jesus said anywhere else in the Bible that is as radical or profound as what he is saying here.

It is a quite extraordinary vsion of our human potential, and what our true nature is.

I am sometimes astonished to the point of irritation that this topic is not discussed more than it is amongst Christians.

Perhaps though, some truths are best left hidden, until there time has come.

I would argue that John 6: 51 - 56 is even more radical and profound. :thumbsup:

51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world."
52 The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us (his) flesh to eat?"
53 Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.
54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.
55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.

In reference to the passage in John 10 you may wish to examine Ezekiel 34, especially verses 11-16.
Ezekiel really picks up on the Good Shephard them quite well, doesn't it? It is interesting how it reall does pick up on the them of an actual shephard, not just healing the sick sheep, but killing the sleek healthy sheep in their prime.

the later passages, about the sheep being held responsible for trampling the good grass with their feet, does come off as a bit more metaphoric than anything that an actual shephard might really be thinking, but an interesting passage al the same.
