  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a question....it may be obvious or maybe it's harder to answer.

If my brother bought an xbox live subscription for a year....could he use it for Xbox 360 then? I would assume yes, but I don't know if they're using the same live because there's going to be a free and paid account now. Does anyone have confirmation on this?

Yes, Mircosoft will allow people to move thier Xbox Live account from their Xbox to the 360. However, I do not think that you can have the same account on the Xbox and the 360.

I don't see why they would have the 360 only play best selling games and not others. It's like not the best selling games have a program in them that allows them to be played on the 360. If they can make the 360 play Xbox games, they can and are. There would be no reason to make it only for best selling games. It's easier to allow all.

The whole idea of only playing the best selling games is ridiculous.

If I decide to get one of them, I will have to get the PS3. I'm mostly a computer guy but I think sony may have more experience when it comes to consoles. They have been building them for years unlike microsoft. The ability to play old games sounds groovy as well but when I buy something new, I look forward the new games instead of the old.

Also, the 'X' for some reason bugs me.

It seems weird to me too, but I listened to a little bit of the E3 presentation of the X360, and the man presenting said "The XBox 360 will be backwards compatable with most of our best selling games." Those aren't his exact words, they way he said made it sound like he was saying they all were, but he wasn't. I don't know what it is, but I believe it is the same reason that some XBox emulators can only play some games and not others. I saw one that only ran Halo and one or two other games and they were working on making it compatable with others. Unfortunately, since none of us are game programmers for the consoles, we can't assume logic is the truth (especially when Microsoft is involved :p). Until then, I will go by what I have heard. PS3 is backwards compatable with all games back to PSX, and XBox 360 is only backwards compatable with some games.

PS3. The looks, and the fact that you can play PS1 and PS2 games as well as PS3. On X-box 360, you can't play old X-box games. Plus, the PS3 is soo powerful it has to sit in cooling gel, AND have a fan, all so that it doesn't overheat. Plus, PS3 has lots of little chips, where each one is as powerful as the chip in the PS2.

Yes. You can play first generation xbox games.

The problem lies in the 360 using an ATI card as the first-gen xbox used an NVidia card for its graphics. There was a legal battle regarding the first generation games being playable on the 360. Microsoft has recently settled with NVidia, agreeing to pay a royalty to NVidia for each 360 sold, so "this likely means that most xbox 1 games should play fine on the new box."

I assume that Microsoft had not been able to answer the question of backwards compatibility until this was settled.

I have searched xbox.com and xbox360.com (a completely useless site) and have found only the confirmation that the XBox360 will be backwards compatable with the most popular XBox games. It says nowhere (that i could find) on the official site that it is backwards compatible with all of them. In fact, the only mention of backwards compatability is in an interview in the community section with people that I don't even think are Microsoft employees. Nowhere in the specs and stats of the 360 on xbox.com does it mention backwards compatibility. You would think they would have it on there if it wasn't something they want to hide and hope people don't think about. Makes me wonder.

Well, since I haven't tried either, I'll have to wait before I can give you an opinion. ;) ESIV:Oblivion is the only thing I've seen for 360 that interests me so far and I haven't read much on PS3 titles so I can't really say. The first one to release an mmorpg with a theme that appeals to me is the one I'll buy.

Well, being a gamer, I will be stubburn to the end. :) I'm buying a 360 cause so far it's cheaper than a PS3 (which is grossly overpriced; though so is the 360, just less so) and it has more features that I want.

Plus...Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I needn't say more.

2 words. Gaming Computer. May not be able to run it perfectly, but you get so much more. Just need to come up with the money for a top-of-the-line card.... Not trying to start an argument, just saying. IMO, pc all the way for this.

But for those of us who don't have money to burn, buying a complete gaming system for less than the cost of a top of the line video card is the way to go. If I could afford to build the PC that I want, I'd have no use for my Xbox, but I can't afford it right now so...

It will be the same with the 360/PS3, though, hopefully, I will get to build a new gaming PC before long. I'll have to settle for an adequate machine, rather than build my dream system, but as long as it will play whatever is released, I'll be happy.

I know. I'm not spending 1500-2000 all at once. I spent 800 about 1.5 years ago, added another 100 about 6 months ago, and another couple hundred this last week. But I feel for you. Up until recently I would have said there is not chance I could bring my computer near top-of-the line. But I am a measly 800 away from being darn close. And with >1000 in graduation gifts and making 120 a week working...who knows. If only college textbooks were so stinkin expensive....
