There's a HUGE downside. Blu-ray is new and unproven technology, and the rest of what you're paying for is all multimedia crap that my PC can do just fine. I want a gaming machine, not a computer - that's what my PC is for.

Not to mention the fact that the game library sucks so far. Yes, it will get better, but it doesn't justify the price right now.

The only thing so far that makes me want to buy one is the ability to save my games on a hard drive. I am sick and tired of dealing with memory cards! But that doesn't justify the price at all. Once there's a nice game library though...I'll be fighting the urge to buy one daily.

Yeah, I really am interested in MGS:4 and FFXIII, but two games aren't gonna make my buy a $600 system. I intend to wait for a price drop.

You could get that now with a 360...or even an Xbox. o_O

Yes, but we want GOOD games, too. And something besides shooters would be nice. ;)

I'm going to take that as sarcasm for now, because the fact that the 360 only has a handful of shooters would just make you down right foolish. ;)

I have an XBox, and I mean be able to save my PS1 and PS2 games to a hard drive.

^That too. :p

That sounds like it would take up a lot of memory space, and then you're back to buying "memory cards", only now they're very expensive and go under the name of hard drives. Besides, why would you want to save an entire game to a hard drive? You have the disc on you, so what's the need to have it on the console?

Sorry, I meant the saves, not the games themselves. And I know it's just one big memory card, but the key is, it's BIG. I don't have to worry about running out of space, and I can't lose it.

Ah well, I'll just refer to my previous comment on that the 360 and Xbox both already have that. But good on Sony on making some progress. ;)

Foolish, eh? Let's see...

Gears of War
Call of Duty 3
Call of Duty 2
Rainbow Six 3: Vegas
F.E.A.R.
Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Dead Rising
Civil War
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
Perfect Dark Zero
Prey
Quake 4
Battlefield 2: Modern Combat
Farcry: Instincts
Hitman: Blood Money

That's just for starters... And of course, Halo 2 has to be included just because every Xbox owner loves it like it is the best thing since Pong.

And I didn't even list the dozens of shooters announced that will be coming out in 07.

If my point needs to be proven further, go to Gamestop and look for yourself. Click Xbox 360, then catagories. Both the Sports and Shooters catagories have the more titles listed than any other catagory (with the exception of Action, but if you look you'll see that many of the games from the shooter list are included in the action list, too).

Stop trying to convince me the 360 is a well-rounded machine. It isn't.

I really don't need to convince you of anything because your opinion doesn't matter to me. Never will, either. And why? You're a fanboy. Fanboys don't have valid arguments because they really don't need them. They will never convince anyone of anything nor will they be convinced of anything.

Now, the sheer fact that you put Halo 2 in "just because every Xbox owner loves it" is further proof that you have no point. Dead Rising, Splinter Cell: DA, and Hitman are not shooters. Granted, they have guns in them, and you do shoot stuff, but it's not the foundation of the game. Dead Rising is action adventure, and Splinter Cell and Hitman are stealth.

I can understand why you think the 360 has only shooters, though. It's because they have the best shooters (sans a few good ones on other consoles, but they are rare) and so they stand out the most. The same could be said for any sony console about RPGs; and if you say sony consoles don't have a lot of RPGs, well, you're just kidding yourself. And Nintendo's line up is always comprised almost entirely of the same redone game of the same reseen characters. I mean, let's be honest here, do you really think the Wii would have sold so well (or would have even been put into market after GC) if Nintendo didn't have Mario, Link, Samus, and the rest of the Nintendo crew exclusive to their systems? Not to say they still wouldn't put out original and interesting games, but they would be pacing fancies. Cute party games you whip out when friends come over that don't know how to play games all too well.

Now I am nothing but not fair; actually not true, but for a moment let's believe so. Microsoft loves to play the shooter card a lot, I know, but not all the time. The same can be said for sports games, but I don't count sports games as games because sports are stupid and if you can play a video game of it, why not go outside and actually play it? Honestly, if there is anything more boring than watching sports, it's playing sports video games, but I digress.

So, to reiterate:

Xboxs= Shooters and sports
Playstations = RPGs
Nintendos = Action/Adventure

All three have several of the other genres sprinkled in there as well, however. So far, though, Xbox 360 has the best variety, and yes, to be fair, it's been out for much longer. Take for example Oblivion. Fantastic RPG and winner of many Game of the Year awards. Now look at Kameo. Highly over looked but incredibly fun and delivers. PS3 has one good game and it's a shooter, which is surprising, and many of the Wii's best games are action/adventure/platformer.

Will the PS3 and Wii get more varied and good games? I hope so. Will they both get the same games the PS2 and GC had? You bet. Will the 360 follow the same path? Looks like it. However, if it makes you feel better, the Halo shooter series ends with Halo 3, so the death threats can stop.

So, first you claim there are only a few shooters (even going so far as to say that it would be "foolish" to claim otherwise) then you quickly change your tune to say EXACTLY what I said before: The Xbox 360 revolves around shooters and sports.

If you've read ANY of my other posts - which I'm sure you have - then you've seen me say exactly the same thing. Each system has its strong and weak points. However, my remarks were made in response to your claim that the 360 had few shooters. And while you may claim that Hitman and Splinter Cell aren't shooters, it's still the same concept. Search for better guns, better ammo, etc. That's a shooter whether you want to believe it or not. I know you don't take kindly to harsh words against your precious 360, but its the truth.

And once again Oblivion is brought up. Another overrated game - but one of the most impressive VISUALLY (and only visually) and thus hailed by Xbox lovers.

And out of curiousity, what exactly am I a "fanboy" of? To me, the term "fanboy" was a word created by people like you who can't stand the fact that their system of choice isn't everyone ELSES system of choice. So what am I a fanboy of, hmm? If you've noticed my posts of late, you'd know that I'm not too fond of the PS3's offerings right now and that I'm interested in the Wii and that I think Nintendo may have the right idea this time around. And I rarely talk about PC gaming because my comp can't handle most of the new ones anyway.

So what am I a fanboy of? The only company I'm actually interested in right now is Nintendo, though I haven't gotten a Wii yet (haven't even gotten to PLAY one yet so I dunno if it lives up to the hype), so I doubt that qualifies me as a fanboy of them. Then again, for some people all they have to hear is that someone else is interested in something and instantly they are branded a fanboy of it simply because their tastes don't match.

Ah, the childishness of it all.

By the way, if you think for a SECOND that they would let the Halo series end after a 3rd game with the immense following they have, you're out of your mind. Sure, they'll tell you it is the last one to maximize sales, but as long as people want it, they'll keep making more. How do you think Mario has survived all these years? People complain that all Nintendo does is rehash Mario, but as long as he continues to sell, they'll continue to make more. Same will be true for Halo.

Although I don't remember writing any death threats. Exaggerate much? ;)

I was trying to tell you that the 360 does not have a lot of shooters but I can see why you would think that because the shooters are usually the more played and better of the whole line up. Take the list of shooters and compare them to the entire list of 360 games and you'll see the ratio is exact to say there are only a few shooters out there for the 360.

And while you may claim that Hitman and Splinter Cell aren't shooters, it's still the same concept. Search for better guns, better ammo, etc. That's a shooter whether you want to believe it or not. I know you don't take kindly to harsh words against your precious 360, but its the truth.

Then you've obviously never played the games, at least not Splinter Cell. SC very little depends on guns. In fact, you do best when you don't use them. You get about two guns in the game, in fact, and that's it. The rest are gadgets and your agility.

And once again Oblivion is brought up. Another overrated game - but one of the most impressive VISUALLY (and only visually) and thus hailed by Xbox lovers.

I'd like to hear why you think Oblivion is overrated. It's a hugely immense world with endless things to do, a huge truck bed of quests, and a flawless combat system. And yes, the visuals are pretty, but that's not why people love it.

And out of curiousity, what exactly am I a "fanboy" of? To me, the term "fanboy" was a word created by people like you who can't stand the fact that their system of choice isn't everyone ELSES system of choice. So what am I a fanboy of, hmm? I labeled you that because you have the typical talking points of one. In an effort to strengthen your resolve, you bring down the 360 with cutting and snide remarks without any leway for it's positives.

So what am I a fanboy of? The only company I'm actually interested in right now is Nintendo, though I haven't gotten a Wii yet (haven't even gotten to PLAY one yet so I dunno if it lives up to the hype), so I doubt that qualifies me as a fanboy of them. Nope, you just have the markings of one. You may not have a new deity to worship yet, but trust me, you're fanboy material.

Ah, the childishness of it all.

I agree. You're acting way too childish.

By the way, if you think for a SECOND that they would let the Halo series end after a 3rd game with the immense following they have, you're out of your mind. Nope, Halo 3 is the confirmed last shooter in the series. They are coming out with a RTS game based on the universe called Halo Wars, but Halo 3 is the last in the shooter series. Look it up. Do research.

Although I don't remember writing any death threats. Exaggerate much? ;)

Never said you did. It was a hyperbole, in fact, to stress my point.

Your sheer inability to read and do research just proves to me that this conversation isn't worth carrying on. If you want to continue debating in PM, that's fine, although I'll probably ignore it. I have games to play and a life to live. Ya know, have fun, not pick things apart. But, you do what you need to do. I'm tiring of drawing the topic away from the OP. In fact, this topic should be closed. It's on a rumor that was obviously false...

Who says that it's overrated... other than you and a handful of others?

It's a great game as far as I, and most others who enjoy that sort of game, an concerned.

I've read a lot of your posts, and I'd classify you as an anti-X-Box and anti-first person shooter fanboy (if that makes sense).

BTW, have you even given Oblivion a good play?

Take the list of shooters and compare them to the entire list of 360 games and you'll see the ratio is exact to say there are only a few shooters out there for the 360.

Then you obviously didn't look at the Gamestop listings as I suggested. Like I said, Sports and Shooters were the largest two catagories for the 360.

Then you've obviously never played the games, at least not Splinter Cell. SC very little depends on guns. In fact, you do best when you don't use them. You get about two guns in the game, in fact, and that's it. The rest are gadgets and your agility.

I've played both. I realize the object of those games is sneaking, but the action mechanics of both games are the same as shooters. Argue all you want, I know it is nearly impossible for Xbox fans to accept criticism.

I'd like to hear why you think Oblivion is overrated. It's a hugely immense world with endless things to do, a huge truck bed of quests, and a flawless combat system. And yes, the visuals are pretty, but that's not why people love it.

Flawless combat system? lol I'm not even gonna touch that one. In short, the controls suck, and no matter how many options you have in a game, if the gameplay sucks, the game sucks.

I labeled you that because you have the typical talking points of one. In an effort to strengthen your resolve, you bring down the 360 with cutting and snide remarks without any leway for it's positives.

And yet you still have not pointed out what I am a fanboy of. Makes me even more sure that you're just throwing the word out there because you can't come up with any solid responses to what I've said. If I don't like what you like, I must be SOME kind of fanboy, right? lol

Nope, you just have the markings of one. You may not have a new deity to worship yet, but trust me, you're fanboy material.

That even furthers my point that you think anyone who likes something is obviously a fanboy. I like to write books - does that make me a writing fanboy? Hmm? I like tacos. Does that make me a taco fanboy? I could understand if I was running around yelling, "PS3 IS GREAT! NOTHING ELSE WILL EVER BE BETTER!!!!11!!! LOLZORZ!!!"

Sounds an awful lot like the way someone else around here (no, not you) acts about the 360.

I agree. You're acting way too childish.

Riiiight. I mention earlier in the thread that Xbox has only shooters going for it, you START trouble by calling me foolish, then admit that I was right, and I'M the one being childish? Yeah, you go right ahead and believe that. lol

Nope, Halo 3 is the confirmed last shooter in the series. They are coming out with a RTS game based on the universe called Halo Wars, but Halo 3 is the last in the shooter series. Look it up. Do research.

I am well aware that it was announced that Halo 3 is the last of the series. And Metal Gear Solid: 3 was supposed to be the last game in THAT series when it was first announced, too. And when the original Star Wars trilogy was released to DVD it was announced that Lucas would NOT be releasing the original theatrical versions on DVD - yet that happened in September. It's called business - you try to create such hype around a popular product that more and more people think they just MUST have it. If people really believe that Halo 3 is the last in the series, they're going to rush out for it like desert nomads after a glass of water. But I guarantee you there will be a Halo 4, 5, 6, and as many more as they need to make to keep milking the series for all they can. Halo is the only thing that ever made Xbox so popular (for reasons that elude me) and they wouldn't be so stupid as to let it end at the height of its popularity.

Of course you're going to think I have no understanding and done no research when you're going to IGNORE everything I've said. And you're right, this conversation ISN'T worth carrying on, since your blind love for the Halobox controls you. Perhaps next time you should keep your "foolish" remarks to yourself. No one asked you to stick your two cents in, and I certainly had done nothing to insult you prior to this exchange. If you disagreed with what I said about the 360, you could've said, "What makes you say that?" or given a little evidence to support your claim, rather than just take a blind insult. And you say that I'M the childish one. Go figure.

I'm glad the conversation is over.

Back on topic, however, I'm curious how Sony is making out financially with the PS3 after the holiday season. I know we had one at our store that just sat and sat until one of our employees ended up buying it. Are they still in high demand? Cause around here no one seems to care anymore. For that matter, our local Best Buy has had PS3s in stock MORE OFTEN than the Wii, yet I know Nintendo's sales are soaring (oops, hope that comment wasn't too "fanboyish"). Are people still picking the thing up?

If the price goes down, I'll prolly get one, but that's not likely to happen for a while. Besides, the only good games on it right now are (go figure) shooters anyway. I'll wait till the library is a bit more robust.

You've played it on 360, haven't you? While I don't agree that the anything in it is "flawless", I would say it's one of the better games out there. The main problems I have with it all come from tailoring the game more towards halo fanboys than previous games in the series. They sacrificed immersion for "OH MAN!! I JUST GOT THIS AWESOME MAGIC BROADSWORD FROM A COMMON BANDIT!! I AM TEH ROXXOR!!!111" Once you throw in mods to fix that...dang is it good stuff. And I've played it on both PC and 360. Definately much better on PC. Controllers just don't lend themselves to that type of gameplay, imo.

I am well aware that it was announced that Halo 3 is the last of the series. And Metal Gear Solid: 3 was supposed to be the last game in THAT series when it was first announced, too. Unfortunately, you're probably right. As much as I'd like to wish that Halo 3 is the last in the line of overhyped shooters, microsoft likes to milk money out of people way too much to let that series go. Microsoft Office, anyone? Over $100 for THAT? psh. And vista? Adding minimal functionality to create another "version" of it for $50 more? Don't even try to say they won't milk Halo for all it's worth. They'll stop making them when Nintendo stops making mario games, since both have enough fanboys to last until the sun burns out.
