  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Proverbs 2:1-5
"My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee: So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding: Yes, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding : If thou seekest her as a silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures: Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. "

I'm not sure. It could just be the traditional gender of knoweldge sort of like we call a ship "she". I don't know if you do that in Finland?

First, here's my opinion. Solomon was writing to his sons - men. He refers to both knowledge [and wisdom] and folly as women. I remember teaching a lesson on Proverbs a long time ago and I brought two pictures of two women dressed in the garb of Solomon's day. Both were fairly attractive women, wearing a head piece and long robe. After a couple of Sunday's of teaching about wisdom and folly, I held up the pictures and said, "Which is which?" The point was made.

My opinion is Solomon was speaking to men and spoke of both the need and the danger as female to drive home the purposeful seeking of wisdom and the purposeful rejection of folly.

Secondly, this link may help. It's got some good research in it.
