Yeah, it's akin to saying we can't predict with weather without explaining how the earth came to be or engage in metallurgy unless we can explain the origin of metals.

Both of these statements are materially true and those who follow those disciplines do in fact undertake the studies you mentioned.

It's more like saying you can't practice medicine without an understanding of evolution. Some doctors would agree with that. Many wouldn't. Both groups practice medicine equally efficiently.

I don't know whether the guy has genuinely low reading comprehension or if he's doing this on purpose. I'm leaning towards the latter.

As far as my reading comprehension, sounds like you're calling my intelligence into question. If you or anyone else would like to engage in a formal debate to test your assumption, please feel free to challenge me on any subject you like.

We'll let the at large audience decide who gets schooled.

Haha, no. Metallurgists do not undertake studies in nucleosynthesis.

Okay, perhaps I am wrong. Ha ha my thought process was that someone with a terminal degree in metal science is going to have a fair amount of physics in their studies which would include touching on nucleosynthesis.

I doubt it's worth the time to look it up - I concede the point.

See?! This is exactly what I'm talking about. You respond to genuine comments with snarky one-liners that have zero substance, and you think you've won something, when they've done nothing but show your contempt for wanting a genuine discussion.

The group that doesn't accept evolution has no incentive to develop a new flu shot every year. Why would they, when they assume that things don't evolve....
It's not like the flu strain of this year's flu season is going to be different from the one of the years before that, right?

The group that doesn't accept evolution also has no incentive to stop, or reduce, prescribing anti-biotics. Because it's not like bacteria can evolve traits that make them immune to it, right?

Right?

So where do they say DNA came from?
What do you make of viruses? They are not exactly living, but some of them have DNA and some of them do not.

Haha, no. Metallurgists do not undertake studies in nucleosynthesis.

I polled some of my colleagues - one electrical engineer PhD and professor, one Communications engineer PhD, and one snotty little kid computer engineer (2 PhD).

All remember studying nucleosynthesis. I withdraw my concession.

You need to resubmit your concession. Learning about nucleosythesis in college is not "doing nucleosythesis studies".

Why would you need to study the origin of the universe in order to study the weather?

Do we have to know the origin of life in order to use the germ theory of disease?

If you are interested in debating the genetic evidence demonstrating common ancestry between humans and other apes, I would be very interested in a formal debate.

Earlier you said evolution is chemistry. Which is it?

Evolution includes chemical reactions (i.e. molecular biology), but not all chemistry is evolution. You seem to be making a category error.

Evolution requires imperfect replicators, what we call biological organisms. It also requires limited resources, but since we live in a finite universe this occurs quite easily. When you have imperfect replicators competing for limited food, the only thing that can happen is evolution. It is unavoidable.

If we didn't know anything about nucleosynthesis, could we still do metallurgy? If all the metal on and in the Earth were magically poofed into being, as the YEC's believe, would this mean that we couldn't study metallurgy?
