like this is going to work.

Cost 100 billion a year.

We don't have that kind of extra money in Calif.

Oh - yes the non working ones say to, just tax the rich more.

Easy to say when it's not coming out of your pockets!!

It is not adding 100 billion on top of things, how single-payer works is that instead of paying for private healthcare benefits, it's through the state. In other words, instead of paying X per year for your private insurance and X a year in taxes partially covering medicaid and medicare, you'll be paying 0 per year for private insurance and X per year for your single-payer insurance. Actually, it wouldn't even be a dollar-per-dollar transfer, but would actually end up costing less in the long run as Californians gain more buying power over their medical costs since healthcare is inelastic demand.

Get out while you still can sell your house. Cali is going to look like Greece in a few years - bankrupted and in chaos.

When they run out of OPM, the poop will really hit the fan.

I am always so disappointed when secular humanists' legislative priorities display a much greater understanding of what Jesus was about than that of some people who have heard the Gospel message.

All I can chalk it up to is "selective inattention." When the word "poverty" or any of its symonyms appears in the Bible some people just shut down.

Don't know why you're bringing up Greece specifically when every other first world country besides America has universal healthcare. Australia has had it since the 1970s (and even Donald Trump has admitted Australia's healthcare system works better than ours). Sweden has had it since 1955, the U.K. since 1948, New Zealand since 1941, Germany since the 1880s. When they first took on universal healthcare, all of those countries had plenty of conservatives who warned that it would destroy them within a few years—yet generations later, they all still have it, and none of them are "bankrupted and in chaos." Healthcare actually costs less—way less—in all of them than in America.

Universal healthcare is a human right. Because human persons have a right to life, which is recognized in our own Constitution, they also have a right to that care that sustains it. More importantly than discussing civil legalities, as Christians, we should be following Jesus exhortation to heal the sick freely. Jesus didn't charge money to the poor!

Universal healthcare also does not mean that you cannot continue to have private healthcare options. Families and individuals that can afford it may continue to buy private insurance. That's what the free market is there for.

$100 bilion? Uh-uh.

Single-payer healthcare could cost $400 billion to implement in California

Consider that California's entire annual budget is only $200 billion...

...and unlike the federal government, California can't print money, so they're just going to end up borrowing it.

Of course. You're included too. Just go to California and tell them you're an illegal immigrant. They have to cover you...

I do need hair plugs, but don't they discriminate against white folks?

Wow...what a racist comment implying that minorities are treated superior in California. They are treated equal. What is it with some Americans seeing equality as oppression????? I'm white and never felt discriminated against in California.

Canada has universal healthcare, spends far less than its American counterpart and has managed to retain its AAA Moody financial rating!

Met 4 Canadian snow birds a few years back.
One loved your system.
Three did not care for it.

What a very terrible system !

And some Americans think they want that !

Dying might be easier ?

M-Bob

At the root of Communism (which Socialism truly is) is god-replacement. The State becomes god to people in that they look to the State to do for them what only God has promised to do. It's a religious system, and like all false religions, it blinds the minds of its adherents. God is the only source of truth, and when we turn our trust in another direction our vision is distorted, like looking through a curved glass.

Another issue is that people talk of these systems as if they were free. I know a few Brits. They tell me about their "free" medical and dental care. Again, these people are so deceived, or unthinking, that they don't understand that it is they who pay for it through taxation, and they pay a very high price for the very poor service they get through the NHS (again, I have spoken to many of these people).

If they were able to keep the tax money in their hands rather than forking it over to the government, they would be able to pay for excellent care at less of a cost. They wouldn't have to wait 3 months for an MRI, for instance.

Tax revenues as a percentage of GDP
