Can anyone provide proof that Saul, ( Not Paul ) was gay?

There are people who would argue this.
Seems to me the only people who would have a need to "know" this are the ones looking to excuse their sexual sin. IMHO. Scripture is clear, homosexuality is a sin, period.

Though I disagree that homosexuality is a sin (I am not trying to start an argument just stating what I believe) I do agree with the sentiment behind this statement. It is hard enough to prove that someone 100 years ago was gay let alone someone centuries ago.

Was Saul gay? Well let's look at this in context. Let us start with this question. Was he a Hebrew in the ancient world? Yes. Did Hebrews in the ancient world hate homosexuality? Yes. Was the King of the Hebrews likely to be gay? No.

Though it would be extremely difficult to prove if he was gay or not (see first paragraph) it would seem highly unlikely.

There are some people who would argue anything that promoted their own agenda. What sort of proof would you have in mind?

One of the problems here is that it is too easy to read back modern notions into the ancient world and then claim one has 'found' what in fact one has actually put there.

Thus I am sure that 'some' could argue that King Saul was a gay person of colour with an interesting line in astrology and some interesting insights into ethnic cleansing; others might wonder what the point was.

In peace,

Anglian

yep...and the same people would try to prove David was gay as well.

Of course when pressed, they can still offer no proof.

Claiming that this is the result of someone trying to excuse their sexual sin is pretty absurd. Saul is pretty far from a biblical role model. You might have a point about people suggesting David was gay, but with Saul I don't see how it could be anything but a historical curiosity.

That said, I very much doubt Saul was gay, though I wouldn't be shocked he had sex with other men occasionally Saul was a thoroughly corrupt man after all, who committed pretty much every other sin I can think of.

I have come across information that makes me think differently.

When the word homosexual appears in the Bible it does not meant it how it is used today.

The story about Sodom is talking about a gang rape. The city was about to be destroyed but God wanted to spare Lot. He sent angles to warn him. When the angles got there they see the citizens accosted Lot. They told him to bring out the righteous guys that Lot hand found so they could gang rape them(Genesis 19:4-30). The people there had been raping travelers. They had been doing all sorts of detestable things. Thats why the city was destroyed.

Romans 1:24-25- "Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and ***worshiped and served created things*** rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen."
This is referring to pagan worship practices where people would have sex with random strangers in huge orgies. This was done to worship the Roman god Bacchus. This is not talking about orientation.

I Corinthians 6:9(To understand this verse you have to look at it in Greek) - ἢ οὐκ οἴδατε ὅτι ἄδικοι θεοῦ βασιλείαν οὐ κληρονομήσουσιν; μὴ πλανᾶσθε: οὔτε πόρνοι οὔτε εἰδωλολάτραι οὔτε μοιχοὶ οὔτε μαλακοὶ οὔτε ἀρσενοκοῖται οὔτε κλέπται οὔτε πλεονέκται, οὐ μέθυσοι, οὐ λοίδοροι, οὐχ ἅρπαγες βασιλείαν θεοῦ κληρονομήσουσιν.

In Greek homosexual used for orientation is: ομοφυλοφιλικός, or omophulophilikos. Neither is found in the verse. The same thing goes for 1 Timothy 1:10(πόρνοις, ἀρσενοκοίταις, ἀνδραποδισταῖς, ψεύσταις, ἐπιόρκοις, καὶ εἴ τι ἕτερον τῇ ὑγιαινούσῃ διδασκαλίᾳ ἀντίκειται)
