Hey everyone!

My question is this: Can you make a promise to God? And what happens if you break that promise? Would you fall out of his grace?

The reason being is I made a promise to God... and I foolishly broke it. So ive now made a new one to God, which is going to be harder to keep than the previous one.

God Bless, metal.

I made a promise to God too, and I am not sure I am even capeable of fulfilling the promise I made. I read in the O.T. somewhere that if you make a promise to someone and fear keeping the promise for you to go to that person and beg for them to let you out of the promise. SO, that is what I did, but I said IF It is your will GOd, then enable me to keep the promise. I think it is very unwise to make promises to God, He told us to let our yes be yes, and our no be no. I think we must honor our promises to God, no matter what it takes, or surely there will be consequences. Remember the story again in the O.T. where the man, (sorry, bad memory) promises to sacrifice the first thing that walks through the door to God if He (God) will help him (the man) win the battle, and God helps him, but his daughter is the first thing to walk in, and he tells her the promise he made to GOd, and what does she say, "You must honor your word" GULP what if you promised that? I think based on what I have read that we MUST honor our word to the Lord, I say in the future let's not promise anything unless we KNOW we can honor it.
God Bless

Hello Metal, listen brov, God was speaking to my heart years ago, and I didnt want to obey, and I said I promise I will do this thing in the summer, guess what i had to keep it!! But the thing is we al make mistakes, I beleive if we make a promise to God and cant keep it, then come before and say sorry yes even with tears, He will forgive(you aint fallen from grace) :o) Also lesson I learnt was be careful what you promise God.
So be strong, you aint c0mited an unpardonbale sin..Blessyou john

Greetings,

I will have to agree with Blessed, I think it is foolish to make a promise to God, because he doesn't take them lightly. You can pray for God to help you overcome certain things without promising. I think it is totally unbiblical of Christians making promises to God. Just as Blessed said "let your yes be yes; and your no no" Jesus never swore that what he was speaking was true so that his hearers believed, he simply let his integrity prove they were true.

Love you all in Christ,
Matt
