Promise Rings?

I always thought the second one was a purity ring.

Me too but I think a lot of girls call them promise rings.

I have a friend who had one and I thought it was an engagement ring and I asked about it and she said that it was a promise ring. . . and then she said "My dad bought it for me."

So I think there is confusion as to what to call them.

There are two types of promise rings from what I can see.

1. Ring which a man promises to marry a woman. -(Childish buy an engagement ring)

2. Ring bought by fathers for their daughters that they promise to wait til marriage to have sex.

As far as the second type they look so much like engagement rings that a single & looking Christian woman is shooting herself in the foot by wearing it.

So no I'm not a fan of either one.

My parents did this and we always called it a promise ring. Its funny my brother didn't get the same thing though. Apparently they only care about keeping their daughters pure.

well its very simple. girls obviously won't remember we have to stay pure or be able withstand temptation unless we have a ring on our fingers. Guys are just strong enough to withstand that temptation with or without the ring, right?

Yeah there is an overly great focus on women to do this which probably dates back hundreds of years.

Well there are actually rings available for boys/men to wear but they are not very popular these days.

Actually I should add part of the problem is that fathers are much more uncomfortable with their daughter's becomming sexual beings then most mothers are about their sons becomming that way.

It's because they don't want him to seem like a girly man with all that jewelry

Promise rings or not promise rings, I don't think it should be any different on guys and girls. Yes, it's important girls stay pure until marriage, but it's just as important the guy stay pure until marriage too.

So I think we should start teaching our sons to stay pure too, not only our daughters.

My dad got me a purity promise ring the christmas I was 14; it didn't look like an engagment ring at all, just a little silver ring that had a heart with a cross in the middle and an angel on either side of it.

My husband also had a purity ring before we were married but he bought it for himself (he took staying pure more seriously than his parents did).

My fiance gave me a sweetheart ring which is now called a promise ring. I was in the middle of medic school and it was for my birthday. to me it was promise that he loved me and i was someone special to him. We are engaged now, but are waiting to get the engagement ring with the wedding bands.

Purity of heart. We promise eachother things and stick to it. I won't say my dad doesn't think I am nuts and wants to see me under his rule but I'm not a child anymore. My purity is between me and my boyfriend.In ways we don't predetermine.

I can promise you it's not 3rd world Even getting a wedding ring can be an expensive thing there... Whilst in Tanzania, I actually had to explain to many about what an engagement ring was.
