  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

what are bad ways a word can be used?

When they are used in ways not in accordance with God's Will as expressed in the Natural Order and Divine Positive Law. AND as expressed in the Gospel of the New Covenant. In the latter, the key word is LOVE (of God and neighbor).

Bon Nuit.

Does the church specifically state what profanity is in the catechism?

I read in Proverbs;
"In the mouth of a fool lies a rod for his back,,,"

and in Sirach 23:15.
"A man who has the habit of abusive language will never mature in character as long as he lives."

is that close ?

oops, sorry , you asked from the Catechism !

Carlos :sorry:

Well there is nothing in the catechism. But thank you I agree with this but there are many instances that words that many people consider profanity can be used in other ways because Like I said all words can be used in reference to themselves. Which can't be abusive or lying.

But Once again thank you so Then when I said that Using a word as an insult only for the purpose of harming that person and unjust and inappropriate anger I was right but I forgot about lying. Lying could probably be considered profanity to.

You wanna know what really drives me nuts? When females spout the 'f' word. Good gracious. And yes it is worse when a chick does it as opposed to a dude. And yes that is a sexist remark but I don't care.

It's espeically gross when they do it on the internet (I visit uncensored boards sometimes) because you know dang well they can control themselves if they want to.

They sound like x-female sailors on their way to a female truck driver's convention.

I couldn't agree more. People who curse extravagantly make themselves look like trailer trash.

I used to have a pretty bad mouth... now when I'm around people who do... I think "whats wrong with you? is that necessary?" And I realize what a jerk I used to be when I was the same way...

As a protestant, I never really thought about it. I just figured "It's covered" and didn't worry about it. When I decided to become Catholic, my speech changed instantly. It's still hard when really fun one-liners or jokes come to mind in some situations, but for the most part I see the way out, nowadays.
