Problems with Vinyard theology?

I am in a church praise band, as well as a professional Christian band, and as such I talk with many about praise music. (I'm relatively new to the praise music scene...less than 1 year). While talking with an acquaintance who leads a praise worship for a baptist congregation, we were discussing music and he commented that he refused to play anything from Vinyard. When I asked why, he merely said they were "out there" on some of their theological stands.

Does anyone know what he may have meant? I have listened and re-listened to a bunch of their music, and maybe it's because I'm not the fundamentalist he is, but I cannot find something "out there" or off the mark.

It's just a difference of opinion.....From what I've seen Baptist churchs tend to stick with the older hymns and Vineyard music tends to be very cranked and fast paced.....it also tends to be very carasmatic (spelling?) and "holy roller" style compared to the traditional hymns and music from Hossana and Integrity......and alot of congregations look down upon the "holy roller" style..... personally, I like Vineyard music, but I come from a very carasmatic non-denominational church...there are some churchs that find anything outside the traditionl hymns to be "out there"...... The way I look at it we should worship God in the way that we feel he wants us to and for you and I the "out there" music is the way he wants us to praise him :)

*sigh* I just posted a response and the server was too busy so here we go again.

I'm Vineyard in denomination and I have had people have a problem with some of the Vineyard beliefs but never with the music. If you want a few links to find out the particulars of Vineyard beliefs then feel free to PM me (I would explain but I am still too new to do so to my own satisfaction)

Vineyard Music is excellent stuff.

One problem I have with the music part of vineyard - is the only record music that it sang in their churches - but yet they will sell their music to ANYONE. To me if you are going to be that strict on ONLY recording music sang in a vineyard church - then you should only sell to vineyard churches.

Other than that the music is great.

As far as Vineyard churches, most of the complaints I hear about them is that they are too casual. One instance I ahd a friend that went to one in TX. they sang a few songs, had an intermission, did a few other things, had another intermisssion etc..

Thier founder, Jon Wimber, was very much into the prophetic.

Ok, that's just like saying Christian Music should only be sold to Christians and no one else is allowed to buy it........

Yes, we have had people in town say that we are a little more on the casual side. I often wear a nice pair of jeans and a nice top to church, arrive and go get a cup of tea and visit with the people in my church then sit and listen to a quick speech from our Pastor, then we sing about 8-9 songs have a small break (about 10 to 15 minutes), then when we sit down again we send our prayers to the kids about to go to Sunday school, listen to the Pastor's sermon and then there is either (1) the option to sit up front and pray with the pastor praying for you, (2) break off to set up the "lunch bags" that are handed out to people living in low income homes or (3) a farewell, but that depends on what week it is. We have been refered to as the "odd-balls of the local Christian community". We usually start about 10:30 in the morning and are finished at around noon.

I've don't see a problem with this. Maybe if they were forcing other churches to buy it I would have a problem but they aren't doing that. I am guessing that the reason that they let anyone buy it is so that the music can help anyone from anyplace worship the Lord through their music. As far as it being the only kind allowed, well if you are a Baptist do you want to have Jehovah Witness worship music being played in your church? (No idea if JW's have worship music though, and I am not meaning offence to anyones beliefs).
