• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Probably a very odd question!!

Hi I haven't posted on here for a while and I'm not sure whether this is the right place to post or not. But I have had headaches pretty much everyday since early secondary school (maybe earlier I'm not sure). I think they are tension headaches, but I don't think I'm a very stressful personl so I don't understand why I get them. I have read in a few places that people who are abused as children often suffer from headaches (no idea why). Is this true, could my headaches be as a result of this?

If you do not recall abuse, then I would take extremely great caution in attributing a headache or anything else to some unknown potential abuse.

Headaches can occur for a variety of reasons.
If you are concerned about your headaches visit a doctor.

Sorry I didn't make myself very clear. I was abused as a child.

My apologies as well! Yes, it wasn't clear.:)

Research does suggest that children who were abused may be more prone to headaches as adults, but it doesn't necessarily mean that is the cause of the headache. Frommy understanding, the research also doesn't suggest why there may be a connection.

So, you may be an example of someone who suffers from headaches who was also abused as a child, but your headaches are not caused by the abuse, if that makes sense. It is a relationship, not causation.

If you are seeing a psychiatrist or anything, I'd talk to them about it. If the headaches are bothering you, I'd talk to your doctor about them. It is entirely possible that the headaches have no connection to the abuse at all. As with any relationship, sometimes there is a third variable causing a relationship to appear.

I agree with what has been said. Headaches can be an after-effect of abuse for some people, but there are often other reasons as well. I would really check with your doctor.

I have frequent headaches - doctors found no physical reason for them and it was put down to stress, but there may also be other reasons that need to be checked out just in case :)

Any time you bottle up stress or emotion you can get a physical manifestation of them via headaches or other pain and sickness. That is any stress, not just abuse. First port of call should be your doctor to rule out medical issues. I'd also see a chiropractor. Consider things like food triggers, tiredness - are you getting enough sleep? Are you addicted to caffeine? There can be so many reasons. Have you talked about your abuse with a counsellor or anyone else? Releasing that can help.
