making abortion illegal wouldn't stop abortion, just make it unsafe. The only way to reduce abortion is to increase education and contraception availability. Making abortion illegal will never do anything but lead to unsafe abortions. Ensuring that people know how to avoid getting pregnant will reduce abortions. Hence abortions should be safe, legal, and rare.

You want to stop "some" abortions? End abstinence only education. Stop fighting against groups like Planned Parenthood who probably stop more abortions with their education and free contraceptives than all the protests and mangled fetus signs in the world have.

and why should the mother's life be a consideration at this point? that's an inconsistent opinion. If abortion is murder, how does that murder suddenly become okay if the mother's life is in danger. Wouldn't she have an obligation not to become pregnant if her medical conditions make abortion unsafe?

Why is that the arbitrary line to draw? What about rape victims? What about incest?

Rare? 4000+ a day is anything but rare. Only in the Peanut Gallery does that qualify as rare.

well, statistically that is pretty rare... but it could be much less if the same people who claim to dislike abortion also weren't against condoms and proper sex ed.

I hate abortion more than I hate any other issue.

First, I hate that it's a wedge issue, and many people will vote on this one issue to the exclusion of many other important issues. It almost seems to me that starting needless wars and killing millions is okay if someone is pro-life. I can save the rest of this rant for another time.

For me it puts two heavy weights on either side of a scale.

On one side is the right to life of an unborn child. On the other is the right of an adult to make a decision about their life.

Ultimately I believe in choice, but not in the same way
that pro-choice advocates would have it. I believe that having a child is a result of having sex, and that having sex is a choice. If you choose to have sex, you should be choosing to live with the consequences of that choice.

That said, I don't think that I can force this view on others and need to leave them the ability to make their own choices. It's not my place to judge.

There are conditions such as ectopic /tubal pregnancy that noone would know it would happen before a person got pregnant. A pregnancy can't survive in the tube and sometimes it ruptures. So, in a case like that it comes down to two options such as....

1) Safe the mother and abort the pregnancy in order to do so.

OR

2) Do nothing and let both die.

I'm going with saving the only one who can be saved, the mother. I'm prolife and so I wouldn't support both dying.

I am Pro-Life.
I think abortion should be illegal, unless the mother's life is in danger.
Life is life. Why kill a baby if the mother's life is in danger? Why not let the mother die and save the baby? Who are we to choose which life should be chosen over another? Why not leave it into God's hands to decide who should live or die. It is disturbing that some people claim to be pro life then put restrictions on life....

Roe v. Wade is a free pass to all the abortions anyone feels like having.

Let us work to overturn it. Soon.

No. No we shouldn’t. It is all-or-nothing ultimatums that we can’t afford in this debate. People need to stop finger pointing and name calling and realize that everyone is anti-abortion. Everyone. We all want to put in place reasonable guidelines for when abortions are performed. That involves discussion and compromise. All or nothing doesn’t work.

What did you have in mind?

First, and end to distortions in order to promote an agenda. So-called "partial birth" abortion was a perfect example. A procedure seldom used and acceptable for removing a fetus that was already inviable in the womb. A fetus with no brain development, for example. It was characterized as only as technique for torturing and killing a near-birth fetus. Lies that are unnecessary. It needs to stop.

Second, dedication from both sides to provide comprehensive sex education to young adults. This comprehensive education to stress the importance of abstinence while teaching the physiology of conception, the proper use of birth control, and what it means to have an infant in your care.

Third, a conservative scientific analysis of the point at which the developing brain is at a stage of development at which we should consider a fetus a viable thinking person. At said point, abortion should be prohibited unless other circumstances make abortion an acceptable consideration. Examples would be a fetus that is dead in the womb or with no brain development and similar abnormalities, or if serious risks develop that put the life of the fetus and mother in danger, consideration of the path that would most likely preserve the life of one of them.

That would likely mean practically no second or third trimester abortions of a viable fetus. A woman would have the option of choosing in the first trimester. After that, she is in it for keeps except in rare instances.

This kind of comprehensive program is acceptable to me and I am about as liberal as they come. It would, in my opinion, reduce abortions very dramatically.

"Capital punishment kills
End of story"

That sounded like an offer.

I will support ending the death penalty,
if you will support making abortion illegal.(unless the mother's life is in danger.)

No. Sorry.

If you support the death penalty, you support murdering a thinking, aware person.

My support of abortion does not. I don't have a problem with aborting an undeveloped or inviable lump of tissue that is not a thinking aware person.
