I would definitely like to do that. I have it in mind to build a hermitage, which would serve the same function for me.

We have a little altar set up in our home. We keep our communion material in the drawers and cupboards. The grape juice and bread are in there. We bought a nice little silver cup and a silver platter. There is a cross on the wall behind the altar and a Bible on top. Nothing fancy, but both a testimony to our faith and a reminder of His sacrifice.

I'd encourage anyone to have this kind of setup, especially in this day and age.
Peace of mind is peace of soul, and peace of soul brings us closer to the light.
Your set up should focus around somewhere that brings you joy, light and airy. Somewhere where you can go and breathe. Somewhere you can just shut the door.
Be it a quiet garden in the shadows of a sycamore by a babbling brook, a room at the back of the house with very little furniture that's entirely dedicated to gentle prayer; or just a quiet half hour listening to M-People or the Lighthouse family in the attic.

Even ten minutes of 'time out' can do wonders for you.

As for the OP's question. Yes I would build a place of worship on my property.

My grandmother had a little space under the attic steps that she would retreat to. To this day it's referred to as Safta's prayer closet. We have a corner of our living room that holds my deceased mother in law's chair, a painting of hers, and a tapestry exalting the way of Christ.

I've added a few niches of order inside and out of the house, despite by poor organizing skills. Places like those draw me to prayer and worship. I agree, the family sanctuaries present in old architecture would be ideal.

If Christians are a spiritual temple why would this be necessary?

Deuteronomy 12:11-14 "then to the place that the Lord your God will choose, to make his name dwell there, there you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the contribution that you present, and all your finest vow offerings that you vow to the Lord. 12 And you shall rejoice before the Lord your God, you and your sons and your daughters, your male servants and your female servants, and the Levite that is within your towns, since he has no portion or inheritance with you. 13 Take care that you do not offer your burnt offerings at any place that you see, 14 but at the place that the Lord will choose in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I am commanding you.

It seems to me to build or set-up another place goes against the commandment of God. He's already placed His name INSIDE us, a spiritual temple. There's not need, nor commandment for a physical structure.

Just my thought on the matter.

I don't think it's so much that you NEED one in order to worship God, but more as a way of helping you focus your mind and open your heart to God's presence, even if it's just a place of retreat, such as when Jesus would go to the garden and pray or attempt to remove himself and his disciples from the crowds for quiet teachings and reflection.

Now of course if people are actually making burnt offerings there, that's a different story because that was to only occur in the temple in Jerusalem, which of course now with Jesus Christ the most holy or holies is within us and the only sacrifice required was Jesus for once and for many.

Rather than start my own topic, I'll go here, since Bella gave me the idea on one of my threads a few weeks ago.

So I been thinking of something Bella mentioned here about having a chapel on your own property, and I've often thought of building a small church or chapel on my lan - for years! I was recently in the process of buying more land and a new place but it seems the door is closing on that. (Why??)

I actually have land I haven't been to in awhile with the corner of a stone wall already started 11 years ago. The house needs work, but that's ok.
If completed it would look similar to this in the stone work, only larger. The interior would be simple, but similar to the 2nd photo. Room for 20-25 people comfortably.

I think that people wishing to build their own private chapel should check to see if they need a building permit for one. If said chapel is inside city limits, that building project can be halted by the government if you don't have a permit first.

From what @Kokavkrystallos has described, it seems unlikely that would affect his project, but I would still double check to be sure, and also check your local building codes. Too many worthy projects have been halted by the government these days, so I would save yourself that heartbreak. People have to get building permits to install solar systems on existing homes, and you're talking about building a religious building on land zoned residential?

No building codes where I own property. I will however build it safe & strong, and on rock, not sand.
