  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Pretty baby star.

"Herbig-Haro objects, like HH 30, are luminous regions surrounding newborn stars (known as protostars). "

Scientific American was calling this thing a "hamburger in space". It is much better looking than any hamburger I have ever seen.

Do not struggle to see a basis for debate here, I just wanted to share the images. And object to it being called a hamburger.

This might be an example of German humor. A "Hamburger" is a resident of Hamburg (or an adjective for something from or typical of the place, ie. the hamburger steak). "HH" is also the code for the city of Hamburg (HansestadtHamburg or "Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg" in Englische, ). If you lived there HH would be the prefix on your car license plate.

As for the images, I like the ALMA one. It really shows the patty. :)

Looks like some sort of electrostatic discharge between two separated electrodes?
.. But wait! Oops! We already dealt with that one years ago, now!
My memory seems to have been polluted by reading too many of those types of posts!

Well it did not occur to me that a magazine called "Scientific American" would be a major employer of German comedians, but you learn something new every day.:D

It looks like that comedian is Phil Plait ("Bad Astronomy").

One of the most challenging objects to image is Baxendell's Unphotographical Nebula.

NGC 7088 = Ced 193, 21 hr 33.4 m, -0.23'.
Seen by J. Baxendell in 1880 as a very large diffuse nebulosity, 52' by 75', lying north of the globular cluster M2.
Confirmed visually J.L.E Dreyer (10 inch refractor) and listed by Cederblad, even though it seems not to exist.

It took a lot of effort and many hours of exposure but here it is.
