  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've been looking at Master of Divinity programs but I haven't found anything about prerequisites. Is it generally necessary to have a bachelor's degree in divinity or will any subject do?

How is the application process, generally? Do they conduct interviews, sort through GPA's and SAT's?

I'm interested in any "tacit" information that might not show up through formal channels. :)

Sorry for the late reply, but I hope I can still be of some help. All of the M.Div. programs I looked at when I was applying would take a bachelors in any field. The application is usually a form, some essays, your previous transcripts, letters of recommendation, and often some money. Some do interviews but many do not. I don't think any would ask for SAT scores since it's a graduate program. The GRE is a possibility but none of mine did (although I had a previous graduate degree, which often negates the GRE anyway).

Good luck!!

Big thanks for the info! How about recommendations from your church, is it needed? My location doesn't really allow for an active life in a church of my denomination, so getting a church-related recommendation is pretty much impossible for me.

Also, considering I'm from northern Europe, would I need some kind of certificate to prove that I can write, read and speak English?

Yeah, I think most would want some sort of church or ministry-related recommendation. But I also expect they would be flexible if you explain the situation.

As to English language proficiency, I have no experience with this, but I'm willing to offer a prediction. If English is your native language, then probably not. If English isn't your native language, then you probably will have to take a standardized test called the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Each school will have its own minimum score for admission. (This is all assuming you're applying to American schools, of course.)
