Prepping Daddy.

I'm leaving tomorrow to see my grandfather and will be gone for 3 days. I just realized this morning how much I need to inform my husband of in terms of daily schedule, meals etc. Honestly I'm overwhelmed.

I was wondering how much you'd have to prep your husband to be prepared to go on a trip without your children?

None at all for me. My husband has been 100% involved in everything since the day they were born. Ive taken weekends away a few times and Ive never had to write out lists or walk him through anything. What I do know is that while Im gone, there will be hardly any real cooking going on, baths will be optional, their clothing is never going to match, and the house will be a total disaster when I return. But, hey, its worth getting some me time! I never ask when I get home how exactly things were done because I figure as long as the house is still standing and they had fun together it doesnt matter if things werent done just as I like them to be.

Are there certain things for you though that have to be done a certain way or anyone with specific needs that need to be met?

For me, not much as my spouse works nights (purposely so) and he is very much part of the day to day parenting.

You are most likely going to forget some things and I would be concerned by the more he is "told" how their day is, the less confidence he'll have in himself. I would give him all the major pieces of information and realize that at first there will be some chaos but he will naturally figure it all out. (Remember Mr. Mom from the 80's?) Maybe in the future, he can start spending more time alone with the kids without mom to get into his own parenting groove.

I always tell my spouse he'd be lost without me though...LOL

Not much. I first left him with kiddo's when OS was 2 and YS was 1 month He survived.
I have found it's easier for DH to figure things out than to try to remember a list of things I told him that needs to be done.

Quite a bit. Mostly because he just feels better when I tell him .

I don't really think there's anything I would need to tell DH even though he's mostly not here for the day to day stuff (he works away from home). He'll do things "his" way any way (not that there's anything wrong with that). He knows what their regularly scheduled activities are and what time they go to bed. He won't forget meal times because the kids would tell him they're hungry anyway What they did with the rest of the day would be entirely up to them. The only thing I can really think of which might need "prepping" would be letting DH know what school work Kat should get done while I'm gone.

This has gotten less for us, as the kids got older. Things hubby *needs* to know, if he doesn't already:
1. Anything about medical conditions . . . medicine dosages, times, etc.
2. Anything about picky eaters, naps (even who does/doesn't take one), bedtimes.
3. You trust him, and anything he does while in charge will ultimately be ok!

The only things I'd *have* to tell him would be the routine/schedule of getting our DD to daycare and the routine and times of her appts.

Other then that there'd be things I'd want to tell him . .like to remember to hug and kiss them lots and such but he'd do it all his way anyway.

I would have to be writing a list.

Sorry that's the way I am. I know he would appreciate it too.

I am SAHM, he doesn't do a lot around the house, but he does work 2 jobs.

I used to make all kinds of list and prepare meals and write everything down... and he never much used any of it.

Let him figure it out the same as you did. No serious harm witll come if kids are a little late or the wrong cereal is served.

Nothing- the meal plan is on the wall, he knows how to cook, deal with baths, school, diabetes stuff etc.

Although I also know he would call me at least once to ask some question or other.

my DH and I both know our boys' schedule, eating habits, etc. so i don't have to leave any lists.
I went away for a weekend last May to see my Grandmother b4 she passed away, my DH and the boys were just fine (except for missing me! hehe).

I didn't mean for it to sound like my husband doesn't know how things work during the day or anything like that. I guess I worded things poorly. That happens. He's part of our regular schedule he just doesn't often do it all by himself with all 3 of them. He did it last summer so I could go out for the weekend as part of my girlfriends bachelorette party and did great but that was during the summer without the schedule of school to concern with.

That is basically all I had to tell him. When to start getting everyone's shoes on to get to school and what Bear expects when she gets home. That was it really.

He did great! And he blessed me trememdously by cleaning the house top to bottom with the kids as a surprise when I got home. One little glitch was he forgot that Bear had show and tell the one day for school so Bear was a bit angry with him but that didn't last long.
