I thought about this passage myself, but figured it didnt apply. I believe this is concerning worrying about whether or not you will have clothes to wear at all......as opposed to "Do not decide today, which outfit you will choose to put on tomorrow."Jesus said, "Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will care for itself."
Obviuosly we should not worry about what to wear the next day.
I'm not drawing lines anywhere just responding to someone who is.Why would you question anything anyone else wears if you dont want your attire to be questioned. You want to be free to wear what you want, yet you are looking down on the one who may wear something loose....as if it is known to you the dresscode of one who loves Jesus. You cant have it both ways.... There is either an acceptable way to dress in church or there isnt.
You draw a line at loose and another may draw it at t-shirts and jeans, another shorts. One may say "Why would anybody who is in love with Jesus actually wear Jeans and t-shirts?" What would make them wrong to say this, but you right to when you speak the same sentence, and change the clothing to something you feel unacceptable?
What is your preferred dress code for church (please vote in the poll above)?
Feel free to share your reasoning.
That is shocking. Ridiculous. And I am sorry, Silverback.I grew up in a church that decided one day to institute a dress code. There was no possible way I could meet the requirements, and on at least two occasions I was physically "pushed/pulled" away from the entrance. This topic is a bit personnel to me.
The church I attended in Hawaii was casual to the extream, shorts, flip-flops, t-shirt, and sun glasses. When we moved to Illinois, it was a bit more stuffy. Here in Florida is runs the full gammet. Personally, denim is fine, t-shirts are as well. The guiding principles for me are modesty, in good repair, and clean.
Because they are too hairy or because they can be attractive?I'm just going to make an observation, because it's something I notice men often seem oblivious to.
When men wear shorts, it can be just as - ah, distracting - to the ladies present, as women in an "immodest" hemline can be for the men.
Coming to him in the heart has nothing to do with clothing. But once we come to him... we are to congregate with other believers and with him. Should that day/time be special, different than other days and gatherings with non-believers?An equally important idea to ponder is whether or not Jesus says to change your attire before coming to him.....
No, our bodies are the Temple of God. But we are also COMMANDED to gather together. So, is that time "holy" because God called for it, or is it just another day and time as if among unbelievers? The building folks go to for worship service is not "God's House".
'nuff said.
I am not suggesting a decree made by a church that says one must wear or not wear _____. I am simply suggesting that as individual members of the House of God... should we not treat HIM and His people and His assemblies differently than we treat the rest of the world?Church gatherings are nothing like restaurants. Personally I would not wish to eat in a place which made you feel uncomfortable about what you wore. And I wouldn't want to belong to a church that made me feel uncomfortable about what I chose to wear either.
Any time believers are gathered it’s holy. No, our bodies are the Temple of God. But we are also COMMANDED to gather together. So, is that time "holy" because God called for it, or is it just another day and time as if among unbelievers?
And that's probably why my children end up sick more often than not after going to Church on Sunday. It's amazing how many parents think it's fine to bring their children to church or come themselves when they're sick....I don’t know, it depends on what I have clean. Sometimes I wish I could go with basketball shorts and a hoodie, especially when I’m sick. If people wouldn’t look at that strangely I’d probably go to church while sick more often.
I have no clue what you do for work, but when I see people say things like this they typically don't have the sort of job that actually requires them to dress nicely. I wear a suit more than once during the week for work. Does that mean I should wear a tux on Sunday so that I'm dressing nicer on Sunday than I normally do during the week?I am not suggesting a decree made by a church that says one must wear or not wear _____. I am simply suggesting that as individual members of the House of God... should we not treat HIM and His people and His assemblies differently than we treat the rest of the world?
The bible says when you are sick, call for the elders..... The ones able to lay hands on the sick and have them recover, are in the house of the Lord.... so why keep the sick out?And that's probably why my children end up sick more often than not after going to Church on Sunday. Ok, let me know what Church you attend and I'll make sure next time my children are sick with the flu and throwing up that we come and sit next to you.The bible says when you are sick, call for the elders..... That would be like the world saying, when sick, dont go to the hospital because the people there fear being made sick themselves.
We should not fear sickness or disease....for we are healed....and healthy.
