  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I use a lot of different versions, including research into the Greek and Hebrew. I enjoy the richness that comes from comparing translations (or even paraphrases once in a while). I like the amplified Bible, but its cumbersome to read regularly. I also own several parallel Bibles, and I use e-Sword regularly with multiple versions. (GET e-Sword!! Its free and great!)

For general New Testament reading - I'm currently using the International Standard Version (isv.org). For study, I lean toward the NASB.

For Old Testament, I use the NASB most, and enjoy some of the poetry from the NKJV. I've also started using the Jewish Study Bible - a modern Jewish translation with notes.

(I marked "other" in the survey)

Creation is all through the Bible, but for Old Testament reading, the old ASV is good if you overlook the use of the the non-word Jehovah. NASB fixes that, but introduces more textual criticism.
But most of the modern versions raise questions about the certainty of the NT Text, which I believe to be reflected in the Majority of the Greek Manuscripts, as if confirmed by the ancient (Fifth Century and prior) translations, quotations, and lexicals. It is still hard to beat the old KJV for word for word translation that remains true to the original languages while converting to smooth English. The NKJ fixes the archaic English, introduces the use of quotation marks, while continuing to translate the Majority text and refusing to yield to the textual critics.

No one seems to care what version. Basically no matter what the version, it always teaches a young earth, unless you go to convoluted modern PARAPHRASES that say whatever the translators in some sort of ungrammatical, unscholary "multiple-choice" approach to the languages.

I've been using the New King James for many years, but it has recently come to my attention through reading Adam Clarke commentaries that the Latin Vulgate added to the scriptures* in many places, esp. in the New Testament, and so now I am disillusioned about the KJV and NKJV which used the Vulgate as a major authority.

I am currently on the hunt for a new translation.

I've read that the NASB is very accurate and the NIV gives the full meaning, so that when you have both side-by-side, you have all the understanding that you could need. Then this morning, I discovered the ESV brings out the original languages in the footnotes quite well, so I am torn.

I would never use the NIV as my primary study Bible. I would use the NASB or the ESV for primary resource.

*Certainly, in light of Rev 22:18-19, a brazen thing to do.

I have Adam's commentaries but never read where he said verses were added. I did a lot of research and believe the Majority text to be best which is closest to the KJV and NKJV manuscripts. There are some verses that are not in the Majority that are in the KJV and NKJV but there are not many differences. If you have E-sword you can also download a free Majority text translation for it. That all said my every day Bible is my John MacArthur NKJV Bible that I use with my Greek Bibles.
