  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Like, y'know, the branches of a tree, not like a ladder?

(Where's that banging smilie against brick wall when you need it?)
I think we've got a few horse thieves hanging on our family tree, but no apes.

He's referring to the fact that when Henry VIII broke away from the Catholic church, the Catholics still existed. Just like when the Methodist movement arose in the Anglican church, the Anglican church still continued to exist.

 So, the fact that the various sects that have developed from the original Christian religion is a logical argument in support of evolution...?

:help: You all are scaring me now.

Oh stop scaring yourself and go back and read the progression of the discussion. He was responding specifically to the question, "if humans evolved from apes, why are there still apes?" Religion isn't a perfect example because it doesn't reproduce sexually (not in my experience anyway) but it's pretty easy to understand that just because a small part of a population changed (in genetics or beliefs) doesn't in any way suggest that the EVERYBODY in the original population should have changed genes or beliefs. When a small population is isolated long enough, it becomes so different that individuals in the small population are unwilling and eventually unable to reproduce with the larger population they were once a part of. That the original larger population still exists is in no way an argument against common descent.

Seriously, how in reading this thread did you get the idea that the existence of various beliefs within Christianity was ever proposed as evidence of evolution in any way?

Seriously, I am not taking it seriously. I lost all seriousness when the skulls with no other reference but the alphabet was posted.
