  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Praying.

I think i learned that if you don't pray much, you are not going to get much from God.

Need something? pray.
Lack faith? ask.
Some problem? ask.
It delays the answer? insist.
It passed 2 years and still the problem is there? keep praying.

Christians should pray for the problems until they are dead.
Sometimes God answer is quick, other times we need to insist.

"Everything you ask believing you shall receive"
"But ask with faith, not with doubt, no one will receive anything from God doubting".
"Someone is afflicted?, make prayers"
"Because is important that those who reach out to God, believe He exists, and he rewards those who seek Him".
"Cry out to me, and i will respond, and i will show you hidden things, that haven't been even in the heart of man"

You can stop praying for a thing any time unless you can’t live without it. But I pray less when I see God not giving it. Living with it is next and enduring it, learning to cope and wait patiently. I think both are biblical.

It seems like, don’t get me wrong, that we pray for miracles and never embrace or accept the situation which has something to teach too. Suffering can be obligatory and unavoidable . It’s a life, hard but true. Why doesn’t God heal everybody? Pray yes, but embrace what God has given you. It helps. But when it intolerable, what do you do then? Just carry on. It’s not impossible. There will still be joy and good things along the way. But it’s too much you say. Do the best you can and walk with the Lord. Cry out at times, be with God, fight the anger, don’t blame God if He’s not taking it away. You can still love him, not every second, you can still do good works. Don’t give up!

"Prayer" is often misunderstood as "asking things of God," which of course it can be. But more broadly, "Prayer" is communicating with God. When one receives Salvation and with it the Holy Spirit, one cannot ignore the presence of God in his or her life.

Prayer, then, becomes natural, as you communicate with the One you've made your Lord. You go to Him for guidance, counsel, companionship, etc.

Asking God for things is not a formula for getting those things. "Faith" is sometimes defined as "claiming the things you want by not exercising any doubt whatsoever."

That is not, I think, what "Faith" ever meant--to just ask for things, and actually to demand things. It is not the removal of all doubt so that what you ask is certain to be received. Yes, it may sound like that, but often the context is not understood.

When Jesus told his disciples to ask for things, the larger context was the mission Jesus had already given them, to preach the Gospel, to do miracles, to live in a godly way. So to ask for things meant to ask for the means of carrying out these orders. It kept them in the will of God, under His Lordship, rather than make themselves lords of their own lives, getting whatever they wanted.

"Ask what you will" has to do with a man on a mission asking for the tools of his craft, to carry out his orders. That's all it was, in my opinion. It's like a rich man who is supplying the army with its weapons to complete their mission. "Ask for what you need--I will supply it," is what he would say. "Prayer" is communicating with the Lord, to determine exactly what His will for our life is!
