  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I keep wanting to learn how and to practice praying GOD'S WORD. Personalizing it for my personal growth and using it as an intercessor's tool for the church...to strengthen the body world wide at this time; drawing us into deeper fellowship with the Lord and with each other...causing us to be fruitful as we more and more learn to abide in Christ.

Do you have a copy of "Prayers that Avail Much"? This is an awesome tool to teach you how to pray in the Word. I have the special commemorative edition that features all three of the books in one (hardcover). I know my church's bookstore sells it for $20 or so. It's a great book to have. In the beginning the author explains the importance of praying in the word, using scripture to support her reasoning. Then the book is just filled with prayers, written in the Word, for every immaginable need.

Sounds like a great book, I will look for it. :)

Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

Dear Heavenly Father.... Let us not forget, Lord, the sacrifice you made for us. Let us not forget the scriptures and the plan you had to fullfill them. Let us remember that you have legions of angels that you can call to help us at any time, that we can ask you for your angels to help with any difficulty we may be having. Let us remember to call upon You and ask you to send the angels to the far corners of the earth to resound Your name and glorify You always. Until You come again. Amen

Psalm 37:23-24 ~ If the LORD delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.

Father, my delight is in you. You are my strength, my comfort, my hope. Guide me in your path of righteousness Father, that my steps may be steady and firm. Should I stumble, Lord, catch me before I fall and uphold me, that you may bring glory to your holy name. Thank you for your loving kindness. May your name be blessed.

May the Lord answer you when you are in distress;
may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.

May He send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion.

May He remember all your sacrifices
and accept your burnt offerings.

May He give you the desire of your heart
and make all your plans succeed.

Psalm 121 (My favorite! Or, one of my favorites anyway!)

1 A Song of Ascents. I will lift up my eyes to the hills-- From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. 8 The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.

To pray-read is to contact the Lord in His word with our spirit. The Bible is His breath, His words are Spirit and life, and we breathe the word out. As we pray-read we can have the breath of God. Not for knowledge but for fellowship in life. Fellowship with our wonderful triune God whom we love but cannot see. Fellowship for the renewing of our mind, the transforming of our soul, the fanning into flame the gift within.

To eat Jesus is to take His words into us as food. He has prepared a table for us and we enjoy Him as our unique diet. He is the manna from heaven. Pray-read the word, especially the apostle Paul.

Col 1:17-18

And He is before all things, and all things cohere in Him, and He is the Head of the Body, the church, He is the beginning, the Firstborn from the dead that He might have the first place in all things.

Amen. Yes the Bible is His breath, and we breeeathe the Word in. It's like spiritual 'resuscitation'. He breathes His Word into us...we breathe it in, and we breathe out His Word. Thus we have His Life in us, and His Life is going out from us and into others. And it continues......

More on prayer... from
http://www.affcrit.com/pdfs/2002/01/02_01_hy.pdf
page 92

Furthermore we need to nurture our fellowship with Jesus by asking and listening in His presence. Many times our prayer may be a mere presentation of a "grocery list" of requests and desires with little or no endeavor to listen to the Lord. Listening during our times of prayer is the secret to being joined to the Lord and to His goals and intentions. We need to learn to linger in His presence, allowing Him to speak to us in our innermost being, waiting in the secret place. The Lord Jesus told His deciples to pray to the Father in secret, not in pretentious display. A valid prayer life is a very private life.

~Psalm 4:1 & 6-8 ~
Answer me when I call to you, O my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress; be merciful to me and hear my prayer.
Many are asking, "Who can show us any good?" Let the light of your face shine upon us, O LORD. You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound. I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Then there is the example that Jesus gave us in the Lord's prayer . . .

Prayer according to MATTHEW 6 (& LUKE 11)

5“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9“This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.[a]’ 14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my sighing. Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. In the morning, O LORD , you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.

It has taken me a long time to see and realize...to look "up" and expect good things from the Lord...to wait expecting something from His heart to mine...especially when I am in a low place when I cry out to Him.

He actually gave me a small vision of "someone" helping a child or youth get "up" on a rock...after a season of prayer a few days ago. He did pull me up to stan on higher ground that day.

Praise the Lord, angelwind. He is so faithful and gentle with us, isn't He? I love the way He answers us, sometimes in ways we never expect, and I sooo love the shelter of His wings.

Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him.

Here I see the Lord...the night before He is to die...keeping with His accustomed routine of prayer. This is a good habit to have...daily prayer...no matter what...I still am working on this one. After all, I am trying to follow Him.
When He came to the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation."
I think the Lord always meant what He said...and I have not paid good attention to this word of His...I just sort fly by the seat of my pants thru life.
And He was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, "Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours be done."

Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly.
Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
The first blood shed for my sins fell here...in the garden. Amazing...He was in agony even here...and what did He do? He prayed more earnestly...He did not go to sleep...or have a cup of tea...His prayer was a travailing work...and He needed help and received it from an angel from heaven.

He was strengthened in His desire to let the Father's will be done...more than His own will.

I just feel so unworthy when I see the purity of Your heart...my heart is not always so. Give me an undivided heart heart Lord

God will strengthen me to surrender to His will and carry it out.

When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. Then He said to them, "Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation."
There it is again...pray lest you enter into temptation...the prescription for my weaknesses to fear and doubt.

Lord I can hear this better today...I ask for Your strength and grace to fill my life...I ask for Your help, Your wisdom and discernment to help me face and overcome temptation...I also ask for a pure heart...one more like Jesus had...He truly wanted Your will to be done beyond any other desire. Thank You Lord.

Keep sound wisdom and descretion; so they will be life to your soul and grace to your neck.

Then you will walk safely in your way, and your foot will not stumble.

Pro. 3:21b-23

Lord I see again for my need for sound wisdom and descretion...Lord I ask for all Your church, for every beliver in these times to be granted wisdom from Your mouth. Lord I ask for direct communication from Your heart to ours...especially as the day approaches for great deception to come on this earth,

Lord Your wisdom will gvie life to our soul...let us hear from You and be obedient to what we hear...

Lord I pray for safety in these times...that we will walk in safety in a crooked and perverse world, Lord keep our feet from stumbling I pray.

~ Psalm 86:1-5 ~

Hear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Guard my life, for I am devoted to you. You are my God; save your servant who trusts in you. Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I call to you all day long. Bring joy to your servant, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you. Hear my prayer, O LORD; listen to my cry for mercy. In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me.

Psalm 40:1-3

I waited patiently for the
Lord;
he turned to me and heard
my cry.

He lifted me out of the slimy
pit,
out of the mud and mire,
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to
stand.

He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.

Many will see and fear
and put their trust in the Lord. (NIV)

As I wait patiently for the Lord to speak he will hear my cry; he will reach down to me and lift me out of whatever pit I find myself in. He sees my heart when I cry out to him. He knows my need. He understands.

And I am lifted up by my prayer and by His Grace. My feet are steady and set upon a solid foundation - upon the Rock which is Christ. And firmly I can stand against the storm, against the tide, and against the wind.

And after my patient waiting, my cry, his Grace and Care, and my steady standing on the Rock. I can praise God with a new song. And others will see and become in awe and trust in my Lord.

Notice the images used by the Psalmist. A slimy pit. (Selah, i.e. pause and think on that) the mud and mire (pause), the Rock (pause ), and a new song (pause) .

We are usually familiar with the slimy pit, the mud and mire, and know what my feet and the rock means, but why is the song a 'new' song? What is the new song we sing? What is the new song I sing? (Selah) :o
