  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know we are not to have non-Christians or Christians that are not secure in their walk with the Lord to pray for us.

What I do not know is the scripture behind it.
Does anyone know that?

I met someone in Yahoo group (on another topic) who is asking to pray for everyone there. I am very leary of this. I would like to have scripture behind me when I communicate with this person.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
I will continue to look for the answer myself.

Caitlin,

This is a good question and I did a quick search and couldn't find any specific scripture, maybe someone will have a specific answer. You got me on this one...I'll have to give it some more searching and thought. I could offer my opinion but I think you are looking for something more concrete.

Here are some scriptures that state the conditions for answered prayer and may affect prayers being answered. This would suggest to some extent that maybe those who are in the state you mentioned may not receive an answer to their prayer or why their prayers may go unheard...I'll keep looking.

Obedience
1 John 3:22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him.

Confession
Psalm 66:18 If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened

Abiding in Christ
John 15:7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.

According to God's Will
1 John 5:14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

Asked in faith
Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Pray in the Spirit
Ephesians 6:8 because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.

Forgive others
Mark 11:25-26 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.

Ask in Christ's name
John 14:13-14 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Asked with pure motives
James 4:3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

Live peaceably with one's spouse
1 Peter 3:7 Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
