Praying passenger removed from plane

Apparently, when he begins his prayers he cannot stop until they are done. It's not about direction.

He obviously should not have started the prayers he cannot stop once started until they were in the air.

Shame on United. He was done with his prayers when they escorted him off the plane.

Perhaps if the gentleman had been smarter he would have done his prayers earlier.


Shame on him for the arrogance of thinking his wishes come before the safety of a flight of people.

I think security was correct in escorting the man off the plane. It was not an issue of prayers, but of his disobedience to safety rules.

Why not buy a seat in the back of the blame to begin with, or perhaps say his prayers earlier or later, or plan his trip so there would be no reason to pray while the plane was taking off or landing. Or perhaps take the train...

This wasn't about religion.
He ignored the orders of the flight attendant, he could have been arrested. He delayed hundreds of peoples flight and tied up the gate for the time of his prayers,
they have to stay in their time limits.
His prayers could have inconvienced several hundred people.
The plane can not move with people out of thier seats.

This seems kinda stupid. The story says he finished his prayers, talked with the attendants, and then security came to get him. He explained that he was done and would be able to take his seat, yet they still escorted him off. Sounds like it caused more of a delay to remove him than to simply let him take his seat.

So if I cause a disturbance on a plane and delaying its takeoff, I can get away with it as long as I cease my disturbance and comply with directions (which I should have been doing from the beginning) before security gets to the plane?

If you were a flight attendant, and someone refused to listen to your directions before you took off, would you trust him/her to follow your directions while in flight? Probably not. Besides, afaik the guy broke the law. You are required by law to not interfere with the normal operations of the flight crew. Refusing to take your seat so that the plane may depart is doing that. If he wasn't arrested, he should just be thankful that he wasn't.
