  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How many of you on this particular board think that the state of Israel is part of God's plans now?
Can you answer the poll?
Do you think a nation or individual will be blessed by God by praying for the state of Israel (over and above any other nation)

I pray for the state of Israel the same as I pray for all nations of the world - no more, no less. I don't believe that praying for them increases my blessings from God.

Of course Israel has a role in God's redemptive plan. Then again, so does America, China, Bangladesh, and possibly even Antarctica (I know, the latter is a continent). Every nation is ordained by God, and derives its authority from him.

But I don't believe that Israel is special in any way.

I assume you're referring to God's promise that those who bless Abraham's children will be blessed. I believe that Israel is the church, so I don't believe that anyone will receive any extra blessing for praying for the state of Israel that we couldn't get by praying for others. Of course it's a great thing to pray for Israel, since this region is afflicted by war and violence. We ought to pray especially that the Jews and Muslims in Israel would come to Christ. A lot of Christians today seem to believe that Jews can be saved apart from Christ, and this is a most unfortunate false teaching. So now that you mention it, it is specially important that we pray for the salvation of those living Israel, which only comes by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, apart from works of the Law.

Would anybody agree with Jacob Prasch for example who argues that George's Bush's problems over Iraq and America's vulnerability to Islamic terrorism are caused by him not coming out equivocally in favour of Israel over her enemies.

I'd go the other way around. I bet if we unequivocally denounced Israel, then the Muslim world would stop attacking us. Not that I think it's wise or right to leave any of our allies undefended, but I think we all know that it's true.

There are two excellent documentaries out about the question of Israel/Palestine. Catch them if you can:

"Encounter Point"

- follows real families that have lost loved ones on all sides of this conflict. Currently touring the US (fall 2006).

"Peace, Propaganda and the Promised Land"

-
Analysis of media coverage in its degree of inadequately showing the human dimension to all sides of this conflict. (available on video.google.com)

Search for "if americans knew" web site. It has a dashboard of current situation in Israel/Palestine and American support.
