Praying - eyes open or closed?

I used to keep my eyes open during prayer at church because I didn't really pay attention. Now I've found that it helps me focus and tune out what's going on around me. But I've always felt uncomfortable closing my eyes when I'm around other people.

Did not some one lift his eyes up to heaven and did not someone lift His eyes up when He was on the cross.
