  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

are not being answered. I did have a prayer answered for the first time that I can remember this week. I am not sure if it was coincedence or it was actually answered but this lifestyle is quite frustrating. I would imagine it is in God's will to answer these questions I asked while in prayer.

1. Why can I obey my parents but not you?
2. What do you think of my lack of intellectual belief of your existance?
3. Should I fast?
4. Where is the holy spirit when reading the bible?
5. Why am I not progressing?

Either I am not being obedient, I lack faith, I don't hear the answer, or I have to wait. These are urgent matters and instead of getting an answer I must resort to this website. I read the bible pray, go to school. The holy spirit does not seem to urge me to do things, the bible seems to have been about as effective as reading the newspaper. How can I accelerate my growth?

First off, relax. It's not a race. We grow faster in some areas than other areas, depending what is going on in our life and what stage we are in.

As for not hearing - spend time alone with God searching your heart and asking Him to reveal any unconfessed sin that might be hindering you. Listen carefully and honestly to what He has to say.

Lastly, remember, getting questions and requests answered is a secondary part of prayer. The main purpose of prayer is to spend time fellowshipping with and worshipping God. It is about growing our intimate relationship with him. Getting answers is important, and we should seek His guidance, but first and foremost we should spend time praising Him, getting to know Him and enjoying His presence.

Remember, we aren't often given the whole thing at once. Often we are given bits and pieces and parts as we go along. It is only as we walk the path with our eyes focused soley on him that things start to fall in to place and make sense.

Relax. The answers will come when the time is right. In the mean time, enjoy His presence in your prayer life and just focus on Him.

Dear brother it must be so frustrating to seek and not find, to knock and the door doesn't open, to ask for life and to receive nothing at all.

This also happened to me when I was an teenager the things I can bring it back to - is doubt, unbelief and unwilling to believe I was forgiven my sin - of which I had plenty in those days.

The Word warns us to ask God in faith and not in doubt for someone who doubts gets nothing but is branded a double minded man and described as unstable. It sure was like that for me.

I got angry with God in The End for not answering me and decided He was going to send me to Hell any way so I might as well serve Satan.

It wasn't until Satan was about to murder me, that I heard Jesus' voice for the first time and my prayers that I would know He existed for real were answered. I strongly advise you not to go that way for it brought me years of deepest misery though Christ saved me from my wilful ways.

It seems to me my young friend and brother - that it is best to unravel your doubt and unbelief and see if you can break your intellectual perspective with God's revealed Truth instead - such an eye opener it was for me when my doubt and unbelief died out of me and I saw that my worldly mindedness had robbed me of communion with our three times awesome God and God had been waiting all that time for me to be obedient to Him and die to my worldly mind and hold onto my faith and let go of doubt and unbelief doing that.:clap::clap:

prayers your way:prayer:

Being a Christian is not a "lifestyle"; its being transformed by the power of God into a new creature in Christ.

He has already answered all of these questions in His Word, the Bible.

1. Why can I obey my parents but not you?
You obey your parents because you must. There are immediate consequences to disobeying them. There are immediate consequences to disobeying God, too, but they are not as readily apparent. Your parents will get right in your face and scold you. God speaks with a "still, small voice" that is sometimes easy to drown out. Your parents likely don't let you continue long doing something they don't approve of. God is merciful and longsuffering and will endure our disobedience for a time in order to demonstrate His graciousness and love. When God's boom falls, however, your parents discipline will seem like a tender moment in comparison.

All that God calls us to be and do is predicated on our deep love for Him. All our disobedience can be traced back to a lack of love for Him. You don't obey God because you don't love Him above all else. Its that simple.

2. What do you think of my lack of intellectual belief of your existance?
Psalms 53:1
1 ...The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God."

3. Should I fast?
Why would you?

4. Where is the holy spirit when reading the bible?
1 Corinthians 6:17, 19
17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him...
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

If you are a child of God, His Spirit dwells within you - even when you aren't reading the Bible.

5. Why am I not progressing?
There are many possibilities:

Revelation 3:15-20
15 I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.
16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.
17 Because you say, 'I...have need of nothing'--and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked--
18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

Hebrews 4:2
2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.

Matthew 13:18-23
18 "Therefore hear the parable of the sower:
19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside.
20 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;
21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.
22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.
23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty."

From all that you've written, it seems most likely that you simply don't love the Lord your God with all you heart, soul and strength. Without such love for God, doing as He commands is a burden and a duty rather than a joy.

How does one come to love God above all else? You answer that question and you'll know how to accelerate your spiritual growth. Consider the following story:

Luke 7:36-47
36 Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee's house, and sat down to eat.
37 And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil,
38 and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil.
39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, "This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner."
40 And Jesus answered and said to him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." So he said, "Teacher, say it."
41 "There was a certain creditor who had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
42 And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?"
43 Simon answered and said, "I suppose the one whom he forgave more." And He said to him, "You have rightly judged."
44 Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head.
45 You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in.
46 You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil.
47 Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little."

Simon the Pharisee and the woman who was a sinner were equally in need of God's forgiveness. The difference between them is that the woman knew she was a wretched sinner but Simon didn't. Simon thought he was pretty good; he didn't need to be forgiven of much at all. As a result, he "loved little." When you fully understand how really sinful you are and how much God has done in forgiving you of your sin, then it is that you will begin to love God as you ought to. This is all part of seeing how huge God's love for you truly is. When you see the height, depth, length and breadth of Christ's love for you, then you will be filled with all the fulness of God. (Eph. 3:18, 19) For understanding God's love for you is the only way to truly loving Him.

1 John 4:19
19 We love Him because He first loved us.

Prayer and fasting can accelerate spiritual breakthroughs, when prayer alone appears ineffectual.

Best to study up on the subject first.

Here's a link to the fasting forum here at CF - Fasting - Christian Forums

What also comes to mind is that any type of covetous idolatry that is yet influencing us, can make communing with God difficult... For He has said, for our sakes - " Thou shalt have no other gods before me"... because if we do - they get in the way of our approaching the throne of God's mercy and grace.

False gods or idols, are often thought of as being "golden calves" etc., but anything or anyone which we esteem higher than -"The One Who has created all things", does function as a idolatrous barrier, or stumbling block to our walking in The Light which God Is.

Additionally, if we are holding onto any grudge, or ill will towards any of our fellow man, this will also get in the way of our coming into God's Glorious Presence.

And finally, if we're overly self-conscious, preoccupied with all the "me, myself, and mine" - this too contradicts Christ's Spirit, and hinders us from finding the spiritual harmony which satisfies our soul. Often, one of the best things we can do, is take notice of someone who is in a rougher state than are we, and extend unto them some consideration, some kindness, some charity... and if done sincerely - such usually breaks the vicious circle of self-defeat, and we find that as we avail ourself to help another, the very help we needed, ( but could not seem to obtain ) freely comes to us mercifully and gracefully.

May The Lord Be Pleased to Confirm The Truth of His Word in us. For The Glory of His Holy Name. Amen.

getting questions and requests answered is a secondary part of prayer. The main purpose of prayer is to spend time fellowshipping with and worshipping God. It is about growing our intimate relationship with him.

This is what is needful! It's the story of Mary and Martha. Learning at the Master's feet, that's where it's at

Prayer changes things yes, but primarily US. This is how we learn to love HIM. As John the Baptist said, "I must decrease, and He must increase." This is why we fast. It certainly is one avenue to force us to draw power from the Spirit, but for this to work you really have to know it's there, like a bank account you can withdraw from. Are you there yet? If not, "reading that newspaper" is the process of renewing your mind. That's how we're transformed. You're sure to encounter many more things that need to be ironed out ... have you read the whole NT yet?

No, I mainly remain in the gospels. I like to stay away from revelations because I don't like the thoughts of the ending of the world. IN response to aiki, So I am fool for not believing God intellectually but how could I possibly be saved then? I am not sure how atheists(people who did not even "want" to believe there was a God) were saved with all the doubt they had. IN response to Karen, I never thought of prayer as a time for fellowshipping, I thought it was ask and thank. I don't know how to have fellowship in prayer, I will ask things and shutup and just hear silence so I think well he aint saying anything, carry on. I will be in church and the believers in the church will praise him and thank him, I know this sounds weird but I want to do the same but for some reason I don't feel like I am praising in spirit and truth, so instead of lifting my hands in surrenderance and putting on a facade I sit there or clap to the music.

Better stay away from the Gospels then, cause Jesus sure teaches about the end of the world a lot there! If you really feel the Lord speaking to you through the Gospels by all means read those, but you've been speaking quite some time about a dry spell, reading wise. Move along! Acts has a lot that also pretty dry, like a travel diary, but there's also some GREAT stuff in there. Including what I hold to be the second best sermon in the Bible. (The best being John 17, of course) And after Acts you roll right through. Christians should "live in the Epistles!" And I agree, leave Revelation (it's only one, not plural) until you've mastered the other 65 books, but it's very little of the NT. You should also be reading a chapter of Proverbs a day. Tomorrow's the 9th, read chapter 9. You missed chapter 8 today - read it quick! It's just what you've been needing.

I am fool for not believing God intellectually but how could I possibly be saved then?

You have humility, but that's what needs to grow the most. Just like when you plant an oak tree, it's the root system that develops first. In Proverbs, realize EVERY mention of the foolish man and the wicked, is YOU. (And me) And every mention of the wise, the righteous, etc anything good, IS Christ in you, your only hope of Glory. This helps with the fellowshipping w/ HIM part loads!

I never thought of prayer as a time for fellowshipping, I thought it was ask and thank. I don't know how to have fellowship in prayer

Learned something new today! That's the renewing of your mind. See what you've been missing by not reading through the NT? You need that. How do you grow w/o water?!?

I don't feel like I am praising in spirit and truth, so instead of lifting my hands in surrenderance and putting on a facade I sit there or clap to the music.

Do you even know what it really means to Praise Him? Really? An intellectual understanding of the words is a beginning, but it's very shallow. Starting w/ Thanksgiving is the recommended way ... entering into actual worship can be a battle

Could this be it ?

Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
But he that lacks these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

My dear friend and brother you are making a big mistake here!

You want your inner world to be judged - so you can be free to experience Good Life with God and all His Holy ones.

Isn't that what you want? Freedom from wicked Satan and his henchman, the world's beast demanding and numbering you and have Christ rule your daily life with His holy ones. Reading Revelation will certainly open these avenues up for you - Heavenly places is where He takes us through this Word - and you don't want to read it?:confused::confused:

Surely my friend by now you have seen how your worldly mind-ness is stopping Christ's Seed from Coming alive within you - why would you want to continue in your sins, doubt and unbelief? Don't you want to meet Jesus and our Heavenly Father then? (The promise of the Gospels like John 14, 15 & 17 = equals Rev 17-22 for example.)

It is your fear of the end that keeps you from your new beginning dear brother it is best to understand that.

So yes open that Bible book today if you dare and get your fill of world's evil blood and gore, followed by ecstatic joy and finding yourself truly in Heavenly places. Meeting Jesus at the beginning of it is what you have been longing for all this time or not?

Jesus has never been as awesome in my life as when He took me through Revelation 17-22 for the first time that is for sure!:clap::clap:

Armageddon.

In my inner world life died everywhere,
famine taking what sword had left behind.
Brim and hailstones flattening what stood up,
no escape from the carnage I could find.

Awed I saw Jesus the evil fight,
turning my world into a battleground.
I saw billows of smoke rising up high,
rolling thunder through my world rebound.

I watched as scorpions paraded my soul,
stinging those godless in their lust.
Massive grasshoppers devouring all my good,
fierce horses trampling me to dust.

I saw much of my greenery burn-up,
fleets of cargo ships sadly perish.
Daily trade coming to an abrupt hold,
ungodly rulers wrong to cherish.

I saw the Dragon reigning his subjects,
watched the numbered die like flies.
I heard the false prophet's constant lying,
demons smearing God's love with lies.

It was the blood drinking prostitute,
which flabbergasted me the most.
Unfaithfulness killing God's chosen,
with fiery death she was deposed.

I saw my world's kingdom going down,
ruling Babylon fall in one day.
With two thirds of my world wiped out,
I watched true Peace coming to stay.

And so watching God's own safely at home,
I finally let my tears run dry.
Seeing Jesus arising on the clouds,
I joined the Hallelujah cry.

The end of the world is the beginning of the new heaven and earth. It is the start of an eternity with The Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ! As a Christian, these things ought to thrill you! Why don't they?

IN response to aiki, So I am fool for not believing God intellectually but how could I possibly be saved then?

Do you say in your heart "There is no God"? You cannot be saved if you don't believe God exists; for if He doesn't exist, who is saving you?

I am not sure how atheists(people who did not even "want" to believe there was a God) were saved with all the doubt they had.

THere are atheists-turned-Christian on this site. Why don't you ask them?

So, do you love God? If so, how much? If not, what is the basis for your decision to be saved?

I don't know what my heart says. I don't love God and just today I am beginning to ask myself,
Did I truly repent? Did I repent out of fear of Hell? Am I deceiving myself?

You know bro fear of Hell is what the dragon casts on us for we fornicated with unfaithful love and became lawless in our hearts.

Do understand that the prostitute is burned by fire and eaten alive by the dragon in The End - if you had read Revelation about that you would know how that goes - nevertheless have you noticed the fire burning your unfaithful love within - and doing so - more and more killing your ability to control your sin.

Not to care about it on the one hand but burn it like a blowtorch on the other hand? (until your love is dead and you have become evil in that part of your life.)

And have you noticed the Beast, in service to the dragon, prowling inside your heart and mind numbering everything right and wrong, and utilising your desires by oppressing you with them and so ruling you as god - a true abomination to be?

And have you seen the false prophet lying his box of, telling you all kind of things this world teaches you to believe - though mostly such is speculation and everything is build on the shifting sands of contemporary thought - though nothing is in line with Scriptures (or it has robbed The Word of its truths to use for self service) - casting doubt, unbelief, and the demand to conform to Beast's thinking down on you?

Now honestly true brother, love for God grew really fast in my heart when I begun to realise that this is the fate God saved me from by sending Jesus to die for my sins, and all I had to do was have faith in Jesus to receive His Good Life instead of burning my Bad Life!:amen::amen::amen:

I suggest you do ponder on this a bit more my friend.

Did I truly repent? Did I repent out of fear of Hell? Am I deceiving myself?

It'd be great if we only had to repent one time, once and for all... but for most of us that's not the case...and we need to repent on a daily basis.

Fear of hell could translate as fear of God / fear of His disapproval...which we are told is a good thing - the beginning of wisdom ,etc..

As far as deceiving our own self - this probably needs to be something we remain on guard against and regularly examine ourselves for , comparing what God has revealed in His Word with what going on in our mind / heart / life. And this we cannot do very well on our own, but do pray and entreat The Lord to graciously + mercifully reveal the truth unto us, as we are able to bear it.

Godly loving isn't easy for us still affected by selfish instincts.

Advise you study more of The Bible, branching out into the other parts of The New Testament, and then selectively studying the books of The Old.

Not sure if already mentioned in this thread...

But when we feel overwhelmed by our own self-consciousness / self-image, this is often the result of being overly introverted and not involved enough in edifying fellowship...and particularly charitable outreach.

We can seem so unworthy at times that we shut down our inclusion of others... but this generally makes things worse.

Jesus said, by simply giving one who believes in him, a cup of water, our reward from Him would be sure. And if we honor the righteous, and the prophetic, we will surely share in their blessedness.

By taking the small steps we currently have the faith to do, we place our selves in the realm where faith grows... and if we continue in this, we will soon leave all doubt and disillusionment behind, and serve as an inspired example for others in their struggle to find the same peace, joy, and assurance in Christ.

For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
And he that keeps his commandments dwells in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
<-----> 1st John 3:20-24

May The Lord Be Pleased to Bless !

There's nothing wrong with repenting out of a fear of hell, because that's how I got saved. As long as that fear brings you to Christ and you're willing to turn away from your sin and get right with God. If you're still sinning, that's the reason why you're struggling so much. When you sin, you grieve the Holy Spirit and Satan comes and falsely bears witness with your spirit that you're doomed. You need to add those things in 2 Peter chapter 1 to your faith, or you will continue to doubt and struggle. God won't answer your prayers either if you continue to sin, and then that will make you doubt as well.

If a perfect repentance was required for salvation, no one would be saved.

I don't know what my heart says. I don't love God and just today I am beginning to ask myself,
Did I truly repent? Did I repent out of fear of Hell? Am I deceiving myself?

Okay. So, why don't you love God? What would He have to do to cause you to love Him?

Selah.

I don't love God because I don't obey God. For me to love him the holy spirit would have to work with me so I live love, not trying to act kind. After watching the peoples faith tested in CHina in a thread in this forum I am not sure if I would pass the test of faith. I think the devil is persecuting, but for some reason I feel if I am not getting persecuted because of my faith by humans I am not a believer. For the first time in a many days, when someone called me a name I didn't respond back with a typical "your an idot insult" I just didn't say anything and attempted to show sort of speak, in the second half of the day I went back to my old ways of calling people stupid and such. It is hard to believe you are saved when so many people in church, who may seem like believers and appear to better christians for lack of a better term are deceving themselves. WHy would I not be different?

An intelligent understanding of the issues my friend.

See if we rely on our own love or ability to stand our ground we would crumble into a heap and like David play mad man to escape our doom.

It is for us to understand that WE haven't got the love, faith and hope it takes to be a good believer to be a good believer.

It wasn't until I knew for sure that I lacked all ability to do anything right that I dared let Jesus take over the reigns.

I love life on my knees - it is awesome what He has done there for me:thumbsup:

Can you see those horses trampling???

Bit by bit God's truth is convicting you of the loveless essence of your soul. What I like of you is that you are to intelligent and honest to pretend you don't see you own inability - you are indeed being emptied out my friend and searching brother - it is all this you have to let go - such is the dying of the flesh.

Don't worry about those around you though - keep your eyes peeled on Jesus:thumbsup:

Oh Come, Glorious Judgement!

Judgement Day begins when you meet up with Jesus,
He will search out your heart completely,
dividing the sheep from the goat!

He will address your inner unlovingness with His love,
and chase the clinging coldness away,
from death setting your soul wholly free!

Truly Judgement Day, is a day of ecstatic joy,
freedom for all those hurting and killed,
Only His Loving Truth ruling your inner reality.

Bad religion shall no longer cause any bother,
As His loving joy now finds deeper root,
Lush growth replacing all the deadness!

Yet Judgement Day will be the end of your fear,
As no terror may travel on The Way,
All of you in union, praising the Lamb!

Your big I, gets new function in the rear,
Loving Jesus ruling as king in place!
You loving our Heavenly Father dearly.

In all your life's deeds The Son you'll meet,
Answerable for all that you have done,
In good and bad His truth visiting you!

Judgement Day is about being rightly placed,
good and loving upfront - to B(b)e -
all bad behind - passing away!
