Does it help to pray for the lost after they pass?
Yes, I feel that way also. After the judgment it can't be turned around to satisfy a prayer. I do know the Mormons believe you can but there's more to it for them. I don't remember the other part of itAnswers may be divided by religion...But the Bible states when your dead ...you're dead.
Pray for people while they are alive.

OK lets look at this, if we are saved by faith which I believe to be true, or even if we are saved by faith and works which some believe, how will our praying provide more faith or works for someone who is dead? We are judged upon our death not at some future time. The fact that prayers were said for the dead under Judaism in the O.T. and still are in that religion has nothing to do with the Christian religion imho.Does it help to pray for the lost after they pass?
Where in the bible does it say "When you're dead...your dead."
It would have to come before their judgment, right?Yes it helps to pray for the dead. It's no different than praying for the living. II Maccabees 12 has an example of prayers for the dead, and Paul himself said of Onesiphorus after he died, "The Lord grant to him that he may find mercy from the Lord in that Day...".
Hebrews 9:27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
That wouldn't work for a prayer for salvation though?1 Cor.15:29 St Paul suggested that the idea of baptizing for the dead was okay because they will be raised to life. Therefore, the idea of praying for them is okay because the dead are raised to life.
It would have to come before their physical death. Consider Luke 16. What determines our existence after death is our existence prior to death. It would have to come before their judgment, right?

Do you mind my asking what's behind your handle. Are you asking us to bow to you?The church in Corinth was in a state of doctrinal confusion - they were a mess!
(1Co 1:10 KJV) Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and [that] there be no divisions among you; but [that] ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
(1Co 1:11 KJV) For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them [which are of the house] of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
(1Co 15:12 KJV) Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
One of the issues dealt with whether or not the dead are raised. He is arguing that if they do not believe in the resurrection, why bother being baptized for them. He is not endorsing nor condoning it.
Your statement: "Therefore, the idea of praying for them is okay because the dead are raised to life."
While you are correct in that the dead souls are raised, they are not all raised to spend eternity in heaven - life. The children of Satan are raised to spend eternity in hell, the second death.
(Rev 21:8 KJV) But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Sorry that it bothers me enough to ask. No offense intended.
Btw,. WELCOME TO CF!!
