Hey everyone! I have been studying Lutheranism for quite some time now and will be moving over to the LCMS from my Baptist church. I attended a Lutheran church for the first time last week and loved it! I am asking for prayer because I need to tell my pastor that I will be leaving the baptist church for Lutheranism and I also need to tell my parents as well. I'm hoping it can be peaceful without anyone feeling offended and without huge theological debates. I'm not good at rocking the boat or confrontation so prayer would be appreciated! Thanks!

As much as you don't want to offend them, I think that they will be offended. Lutherans are the aliens of the Christian world No one can quite understand us.

Just insist that Lutherans are bible believers who trust in Christ as their Savior to help ease things along. Prayers for you!

An Evangelical friend of ours read through the Small Catechism and said she didn't see anything that would keep someone from being saved. I guess that's approval.

I also loaned my mother in law my copy of Veith's Spirituality of the Cross. She enjoyed it, even though she remains Baptist. Guess that's what happens when your husband used to be a Baptist pastor.

Thank you everyone for the prayers and the kind words! I have been able to find a lot of really great resources. I've read several books, websites, podcasts, and I have the Book of Concord so I feel pretty well prepared! Last week at the LCMS church the pastor recommended three different books and I already owned all three! lol I'm very excited!

Hey relm! God bless... just started this journey myself not to long ago. Books to get that I recommend are the small catechism with explanation esv text, and Law and gospel. You can find both at the cph website worldsoflife linked you to.

Also if you google worldview everlasting, Pastor fisk is a lc-ms rev. He posts 2 vids a week all with sound biblical doctrine. God bless and Ill be praying as well.

I recently switched to the LCMS from the ELCA. Even though they are both 'Lutheran' I think they have a bigger gulf between them then conservative Baptists and confessional Lutherans do. I'm loving it so far.
