  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Whoever told you that is wrong.

The Bible tells us that Jesus sat at the table with sinners.

I understand that our friends can have a big influence on us (and most of the time not for the good) - but we should pray to our Father to give us His strength and character so that we can have a bigger influence on them.

If you continue to build your relationship with Christ than He will be your closest Friend, and your friends will see Him in you.

Uhh that was Jesus, if anybody could sit at a table with sinners and not be effected, it was him. It also says to stay away from people that may corrupt us or damage our faith (not in those exact words, but point is the same) We all want friends, but frankly we don't need them. The only friend we need is God. but lets be realistic shall we, I would like to have a good friend that I could sit down and talk to about life and that understand life as much as I do, I am looking for that person, I have found that person, but unfortunatly she doesn't feel the "need" to be that close to me. Searching for a best friend is like searching for a boyfriend, (in my case a gf) you will find many, but just the right one is hard to find. Good luck

But in defence. Whoever told you not to go is wrong. It's a bible study for petes sake, sure they may not be from your religion and their beliefs may be different, but if you look around even people in the same religion have different beliefs. So I would have gone. If there is onething we all have in common is that we worship the same God.

We all need friends. I've had to look outside my church for friends because the Adventists in our local church haven't been very friendly to me, except on a superficial level. They all have their own little cliques, and they won't let anyone else in. It doesn't help that I'm the pastor's wife, so that automatically puts up a barrier in their minds between me and them. I started going to a Christian women's fellowship group in town so that I could actually make some friends.

Those who say that we shouldn't make friends who are not Adventists are just wrong. There's a difference between spending time with other Christians who engage in wholesome activities and hanging around with people (whether Christians or non-Christians) who get drunk, do drugs, engage in sexual immorality, etc. That's not to say that we shouldn't be friends with them, too, but we couldn't conscientiously go where they go and put ourselves in the way of temptation.

We're all sinners, but my Christian friends are also morally upright, spiritually minded people who pray for me and encourage me, as I try to do for them as well. We can all be good influences on each other, even when we disagree on our theology.
