  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Please pray for the conversion of a friend of mine. Chris, a co-worker, is a prostant. He, his wife, and daughter go to a baptist church I think. About 6 month ago during one of our lunch he started harping on the difference between Catholics and protestants. Starting, of course, with Mary, and confession and all the Catholic stuff we do. Well about that time I really started getting into my faith and reading up the what the scripture tells us and why Catholic believe these things. I have gotten better at answering his questions. The conversation has turned from friendly bantering to deep discussion.

What really got him was the authority of the protestant church, and he brought up that in his life he has had a problem with pastors saying different things about the bible. I went into some church history (sola vida and sola scriptura) to explain our differences.

He mentioned that he is considering becomming catholic. I think all this is new to his wife. He went with me to ash wednesday Mass at noon, recieved ashes, and crossed his arms durring communion. It was cool. I gave him a Scott Hahn tape to listen to as well. It has been about a week and half. I have not talked to him since, been cautiously avoiding the topic. But I did send him an email saying that my family was praying that he make the right decision for his family. We'll see what happens.
Pray that the normal lunch time guy talk turns in to the conversion of a heart to the fullness of the faith.

Thanks, Frank
