• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I've been drinking since I was around 15. About 6 months ago I hit a telephone pole and wrecked off a small cliff. I didn't get hurt very bad but I did get a DWI. I've been trying to quit the past month or so but I keep going back to it.

Please pray that God will help me quit as soon as possible. I'm down to around a 6 pack a day, but I want to quit all together. Thanks for your prayers.

Will

Hey Will,I hope your okay. Regarding you quitting drinking completely....I had to go to detox for 10 days. After having my physical body "detoxed"...I then had to rethink my behaviors. I have been sober for 23 days. I am not saying it is easy...you could look into a treatment center also where they teach you how to rethink your decisions.Prayer IS the most important thing we can do...read Gods Word and live one day at a time...I find many days I have to live one moment at a time.I will add you to my prayer list. Please keep "us" updated on how your doing. With prayer,Wendy

I'm glad you didn't get hurt badly in an accident but you could have. Drinking is a habit that is hard to break. I tried the cutting down and then controlling it but couldn't seem to not get bombed once a week or so still. I quit drinking going on 3 months with the help of a medicine the doctor prescribed for me. It's called Campral. I take it 3 times a day. It takes away the urge to drink but you can't drink with it or it won't work. Someone pointed out to me that drinking wasn't doing me much good and getting me in trouble. I had a ticket for Public Intoxication and a several other incidents that scared me. I realize I can drink Pepsi and be a lot better off. I quit for 18.5 years once before and then drank for 11 months this last time. Now I am sober again and I know I am much better off. Best of luck to you. Praying for you.

Dear Lord, I pray for Will. Lord, give him a renewed hope and strength to stop drinking and hurting himself. May he lean on you when he has the desire to drink or hurt himself. Thank you for preserving his life. Thank you for him. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

I don't think you're unreachable Will ... you're reaching out by posting here (which I hope you continue to do !)

Please don't "cut yourself down" You're NOT an Idiot! You're someone who needs help, encouragement, prayer ( as Tapero has just done) and support!

With  s & :prayer: s ( you ARE on my :prayer: list),
Wendy

Remember, there is always hope for you. As long as you are alive there is always hope. Please don't hurt yourself. You can do this, you can quit. Try and get the Campral. It really works. Take good care.

most of the hope has faded away. tragic things happen. sometimes people, even Christians fail. I pray that the blood of Jesus will forgive my sins but it is too late for me.

Heyas wmc. I was in your present state of mind about 12 years ago. That thinking that there was no hope for me is one of the lonliest places in the world. Any power I had to not pick up a drink or drug had left me long before leaving me at a point where the idea of drinking and drugging myself to death was the only available option.

An aquaintance had talked to me about how he had found hope and the power to quit his habit through 12 Step programs like AA/NA and so as a last ditch effort, I decided to attend a few meetings to see if it would work for me. It was through these programs that I learned how to utilize the power of Christ's blood on this side of the grave to affect my salvation from my addictions. Magic no-drinking pills may curb the desire to drink but they do nothing for the underlying issues of guilt, shame and remorse that are the root of my need to get out of self. Through working the Steps and putting my reliance on God, the desire to drink and/or drug was lifted and though at the time when I hit my bottom I never thought I could ever have any happiness again, it turns out that my wost day in sobriety was better than my best day while drinking.

wmc, in your local phone book there will likely be a listing for Alcoholic Anonymous or AA. Please phone that number and ask for the next available meeting. It is a phone call you will not regret.

God bless.

Will,

I agree with Lion of God!

I have found AA a God sent! The members in this fellowship are supportive and encouraging! They have been where you are and have found hope and pass that hope to you!

Do try it...you have nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain!

You bet Jesus will forgive your sins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no sin "too big" that Jesus won't forgive!

I read this in devotions today:

Have you been passing through a time when you are tired of body and sick of heart? Do you find it difficult to focus your mind on biblical promises? Has it become hard for you to pray? DON'T WRITE YOURSELF OFF AS A SPIRITUAL CASTAWAY ! You are joining a host of God's people who have experienced the dark night of the soul.

When we endure such times, all we can do - indeed, all we NEED do - is lie still like a child in the arms of our heavenly Father. ...He knows we need His soothing car. In times of trouble, His mercy holds us up! We may trust Him to carry us through that dark night of the soul and on into the dawing light. -- V. Grounds

It is not too late for you. You are mistaken in your thinking now because of depression. That happens a lot with depressed people. We think we are the worst when we really are not. There is hope, please believe that, there really is. Take a risk and trust what others are telling you as true. I'm praying for you.
