  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I will try to give you a quick run down of my situation. I am a Union Electrician and there is absolutely no work in Tennessee to go to. I have traveled before but there is also no work on the road. I recently had an interview for a really good job with TVA (main powerplant in this area). I am currently unemployed, my wife is 3 1/2 months pregnant and I really want this job. My question is, is it wrong to pray for these things? I mean I feel guilty when I ask for help to get this job. I feel like I shouldn't be asking for things for personal gain. Dont know what to do, any advice?

On a side note, I am praying for each and everyone of you that are on here in need of prayer. :prayer:

I understand how you feel. I'm the same way - I'm very hesitant about praying for myself. But when there are difficult circumstances - in which case you are in, I believe there is nothing wrong with praying. You are trying to support your family as a husband and a father - they are both very important roles. I do not see this as "personal gain" - this is about survival. You need a job to support and survive. This is not about materialsim. This is about putting a roof over your head and feeding your family. Please do not feel hesitant to pray. Trust in the Lord and He will guide you to where you need to be.

I will pray for you.

Your intentions will be in my prayers.
Thank you for your prayers :)

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us, and increase Your mercy in us, so that in difficult moments we might not despair, nor become despondent, but with great confidence, submit ourselves to Your Holy Will, which is Love and Mercy itself. Amen

There's nothing wrong with asking God for your needs.. When I first found Christ (or I should say He found me) I thought I should only ask for the BIG stuff.. that my needs we too unimportant to bother Him with..

But His Word says,

Php 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

And Jesus says,

Matthew 7:7 "Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.

We need to be persistent as well,

Col 4:2 Be persistent in prayer, and keep alert as you pray, giving thanks to God.

Heavenly Father, we know You love us with an everlasting love & want only the best for Your Children..

Bless Your son & his family with this job that he has interviewed for.. provide for all the needs of this family.. spiritual, physical, emotional.. if this is the job you have in mind for Him.. for we know You have a plan.. and Your plan is ALWAYS perfect..

I ask for peace.. and joy.. as they trust in You..

In the most Holy Name of Jesus, I pray.. :prayer: Amen..

Wow, prayer definately works! I was offered the job a couple days ago. The Lord definately has been blessing me lately, I prayed for my wife and I for our pregnancy problems and now she is 17 weeks pregnant. I prayed about the job and they offered it to me. I am so thankful to have the Lord in my life and in my heart. Thanks to everyone for helping me with my questions.:)

Praise the Lord. Brian the Lord puts circumstances in our lives to bring us closer to Him so we can ask for help. That is what we are supposed to do. He wants you to KNOW that Everything is because of Him. And only Him. You should come to Him with absolutley everything and anything you can think of. I'm glad you got a job with TVA it should be an excellent job. I live in the area also. Praise God and Bless you.
