  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, for the most part the folks I meet up with are Charismatic or lean that way. They tend to pray for things like lost items, jobs, government, revel and personal requests given by the folks who attend. No one talks in tongues or pretends to have a word of “prophesy.” The fellas tend to be overly emotional, the women tend to be strong leaders, choosing the scripture reading and being committed to attending. The person reading scripture starts to pray for the items on our prayer list, everyone bows their heads and we pray. Just pray from the heart. The words seem to flow pretty well, it doesn’t sound scripted at all, and the Holy Spirit of God really lifts us as we pray. The words just seem to have power, it’s a powerful thing to be in unison, having the Holy Spirit work in us to pray. It’s similar to cooperate worship but less formal.

That has been my experience so far.

I personally don't attend any. Not because I think they are bad, early believers prayed together often, but just because there are not any reformed ones around me, and the ones I have gone to people where praying for God to find this unmarried couples a home. I couldn't agree with the prayer.

Makes sense. I mostly have heard about prayer meetings in Charismatic settings. I used to read alot of Smith Wigglesworth books and that's pretty much all Pentecostal/Charismatic folks did is go to prayer meetings.

Most Baptist churches I was familiar with while growing up had regular Wednesday evening Prayer Meetings. IIRC, there was a short sermon and a hymn or two, then lots of prayer time with different people leading prayer as they felt led.
