Had a chipped filling that was hurting, went to the dentist and they said I had an infection and decay under the filling near the nerve. They said it might require a root canal and a crown. I got the crown and they did not give me a root canal but said if my tooth is still hurting when I come back for my permanent crown, they would do a root canal.

I am terrified of the dentist. It is my only real fear. It’s a fear I can’t even put into words. I’m on day 2 of my temporary crown and my tooth still hurts so I’m scared.

please pray for healing.

I know prayer for healing works. I was posting here back into 2016 and 2017 because I was dealing with panic attacks and depression. The Lord completely delivered me from panic attacks, anxiety and depression. Even when I’m at the dentist my worst fear, I didn’t have a panic attack.

I know God heals from my past experiences, I ask that you pray in agreement with me that my infection leave, the pain stop and that all my teeth will be delivered from sickness.

Well better to have that tooth treated than to have a heart attack from a bacterial infection. I understand. I went to a dentist when I was a kid who never hurt. When he retired and I got a new dentist I found out why people are afraid of dentists and it took me years to get over that one visit

because of my fearfulness by the time I went back I needed 2 root canals .

Could you ask for a course of antibiotics to kill the infection and give you time to carefully consider options?

I have a similar issue - will pray.
Hey, Mr. Emerson. It seemed crazy to me that initially they did not prescribe antibiotics when they knew I had a small infection. I only got antibiotics today because I called up there and told them I was in pain. I have enough for a 10 day cycle, though.

Excellent - this will give you time to gather yourself and work out the best options.

Can I suggest that some dentists specialise in extractions exclusively and have better options for sedation.

I’m still in pain and contemplating making an appointment for an extraction if I can find a dentist that will sedate next. I live in a small town and all the dental offices are owned by the same practice, not a lot of options, unfortunately.

You need to get into the second day of the course of meds before you notice much change, out around the 5th dose or so at any rate. My guys general med is 500mg Amoxicillin 3 times a day. I get myself on two the first day even if they are close together by bedtime and get a jump on it. It will rid you of the pain but not saying it won't ever come back. The root canal will end it, you don't want to get your new crown on there then need the root canal anyway.

Romans 8:28

28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Some years ago I had a terrible fear of the dentist. Really it's the fear of pain, yes?
Like you I had to have a root canal but while I was waiting and on the weekend -of course! - I developed a tooth abscess with a 'dead nerve' It was the worst pain I had ever felt. It was Sunday evening and while we could not get onto the dentist I had been seeing at the practice, we did get onto his partner who opened up just to see me. You can't even imagine the relief he brought nearly as soon as he started. Not only was I blessed to find a Christian dentist but one so good I never feel a thing. Do you know what I am fearful of now? Not my dentist, but of an abscess with a dead nerve, so now I run and see him at any twinge. If I had not procrastinated over my fear of the dentist I would never have developed that terrible toothache in the first place, but perhaps I would also not have discovered such a great dentist. God knew I was in need but how he answered my prayer that night was not by simply healing my tooth but sending someone who could do so as well as curing my fear of the dentist.

So pray for healing but also pray that God may take away your fear of the dentist and try and be open to what his leading is, it isn't always what we think it is.

I pray that you will have peace.
Philippians 4:7
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Oh and a quick help for any toothache is to swish your mouth in salty water or even put salt directly on the tooth.

Heavenly Father, I pray for the best outcome for Andrew and his tooth. I ask that You will remove the fear of dentists and deliver him from the infection, the pain, and spare his tooth without resorting to a root canal, In Jesus Name, Amen

I had whole bunch of dental work done in the spring and summer of 2019. I also had some fear of dentist, but also put it off for years because of the cost.

Dentists can be much better at dealing with fearful patients than in years past. I also was inspired to stop avoiding it because of an episode of Mad Men the protagonist puts off seeing the dentists because he assumed a man's identity to escape the Korean War. Later on he gets a bad tooth problem that becomes serious that he finally seeks help for, and the dentist warned him that the problem could have escalated and become a jaw infection of his jawbone, blood poisoning etc. and become life threatening. Anyway, I think God often forces us to face our fears etc.
