Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm always amazed in the variance displayed by Christians, from Aiki's staunch orthodoxy to Catherineanne's liberalism, and everyone in between. I wonder sometimes who has the greater understanding of god, or perhaps both are equally valid.


As I live in a highly secular culture, I find bible literalism and strict orthodoxy somewhat off-putting. So as my latest attempt to find 'God' I've started engaging in 'meditative prayer' with an old friend of mine. And I've got to say it's far more fulfilling than kneeling down mumbling doxologies.

True prayer requires faith and love for god, instead of just talking to god, you want to make a connection.
Also instead of just the person talking to god, god replys in various ways, believe it or not most people do not pray this way.
Prayer is how you get to know god, all true christians do not question the existence of god because they know god through proper prayer. i hope this helps.
