  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

“Come, children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
Which of you desires life,
and covets many days to enjoy good?
Keep your tongue from evil,
and your lips from speaking deceit.
Depart from evil, and do good;
seek peace, and pursue it.” Psalm 34:11-14

Almighty and Eternal God, we come before you as your children, trusting wholly in your generous providence and abundant grace. We thank you for your many blessings, those we have received and those to come. Open our ears and guard our mouths, so that we may hear your Good Word and speak blessings to others. We are your children, Holy Father, for we seek to be merciful just as you are merciful. May the love of your Son overflow through us. In his light may we see light.

Most Gracious and Merciful Father, bless and keep all the little children, for your kingdom belongs to them. Bring them up in the love and grace of your Son. May the world be filled with child-like hearts that have grown to maturity through faith. We ask these things humbly and gratefully, and in the power of your Holy Spirit, for we know your steadfast love and faithfulness will never end. To You belongs the praise and glory; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; One God for ever and ever, Amen.

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:14-15

I join in your prayer, especially for little children, so defenceless in this world.
Lord save and defend them

I like the prayer in the OP --- but there is something I personally have trouble understanding. I mean, it really seems like it is my personal issue more than anything, but it make sense to me and I bring it up hear because of the OP and what is in it. It reminds me of my personal issue.

For me, prayer, for the most part, is my personal conversations with the Lord!!!

As a result, my prayers are more like, 'Lord, what do you want done today?' or 'Lord, what do you thing about this', or 'Lord, why do I think of pray being a two way conversation with You where as others seem to present prayer as a one way conversation with you?'

Now don't get me wrong, I am aware of something called intercession prayer, and I do believe the OP is that. It is a request, and a very nice one, for God to help out others. Specifically it ask God to 'Open our ears and guard out mouths, so that we would hear His good word and thus be able to speak blessing to others.' That seems great, but then I go back to what I understand about prayer and it being my personal conversations with Him.

You see, I don't really want to be God's mouth piece! I think Jesus, via the Holy Spirit, is supposed to be God's mouth piece! So I don't want to be the One speaking blessings over them so much as I want them to hear from Him, Jesus Christ, so that He speaks blessings over them. I want them to hear directly from Him!!! That is to say, 'I want their prayers to be personal conversations with Him!'

Now, I am about to go for a walk with Him. It gives me some exercise, and being in my 60's I need the walk. More importantly, I will talk to Him. I will talk to Him, and listen to what He has to say on this thread and He will talk to me about it. He always responds, of course.

I had already talked to Him and heard Him tell me to go and post, but what was I to post except for this issue of mine. And on this walk I will probably ask Him, but in not such a formal way or with such wonderful wording as the OP, that He would open their ears so that they would hear His "Good Word", but that so that they might have His blessing! It is written that His words are spirit and are life. What a blessing we get when we personally listen to Him.

So my prayer, in general, is that we all would hear from Him, but not so I could bless others but that His words to each of us personally, would bless each of us personally.

Was the Psalmist who wrote "Come, children, listen to me" saying come listen to them as a person because they had the words of God, or was the Psalmist just writing down what they were personally hearing from the Spirit of God so the meaning is that we need to listen to Him in order to get a fear of the Lord? I read it as the latter; that the Scripture is saying listen to the Son of God to learn the fear of God, as opposed to listen to another person, such as a person who wants the words of God to tell others. I keep thinking about what the Father said on the mountain, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleases, Listen to Him!"

I am not the Son, Jesus Christ. So I am not the Word of God who was in the beginning with God. So I am not trying to have the words of God to bless others, but I am someone wanting to hear and be blessing by the word I personally get from Him. And I am someone who hopes others with listen to Him also so that they might be blessed by Him themselves. So prayer, for the most part, to me is that personal conversation between Him and me. Of course if He asked me to give a word from Him to someone, ok. I do want to be obedient, but it is not what I am looking for. I do it if it is something He is looking for me to do for Him. The important part, for me, is that I listen to Him. Shouldn't that be the important part for others also?
