• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Love4ever,

When I pray, I like to do it in my room with the lights turned out and my door shut - just me and God. I get down on my needs on kneel by a chair and imagine Jesus is sitting there ready to listening to me. I start out something like, "Dear Heavenly Father" and then I try and praise him for all he's done for me that day. I then take to him my concerns for people in my life, and then lastly, concerns for myself. I try to do it in this order JOY - Jesus, Others, Yourself. Those what what I try to make my priorities in that order in my life and prayer life. After prayer, I usually meditate on what I just said and wait for God to speak to my heart. Also, meditating and reading God's Word is very helpful in hearing what God has to say to you. I once heard that opening the bible is like starting a converation with God. Good luck. I'll be praying for you! Trinity

I just talk to God in my mind... tell Him what's going on and how I feel about it. A lot of the time, I'm telling Him "thankyou". I don't necessarily always pray "for" something. I don't have to be in my room to pray, or even have my eyes shut, I just do it whenever I feel it is appropriate. My prayers are my private thoughts, no one knows I'm praying except God and I.

I agree that you can definitely pray wherever you are at. You don't have to be in a special place. I prefer to be away from others when I pray to give my full attention to God. However, sometimes I pray around others in my head when I feel it is necessary. I do pray in my mind too, when I don't feel like doing it out loud. He knows our hearts.

The reason why many Christians pray so little is because they haven't learned about prayer.

If you are discouraged by the command to pray because you feel like you don't know how to pray well, the fact is that prayer is learned should give you hope. That means that it's okay to start the Christian life without any knowledge or experience in prayer. No matter how weak or strong your prayer life is right now, you can learn to grow even stronger.

There is a sense in which prayer needs to be taught to a child of God no more than a baby needs to be taught to cry. But crying for basic needs is minimal communication, and we must soon grow beyond that infancy.

The Bible says we must pray for the glory of God, in His will, in faith, in the name of Jesus, with persistance, and more. A child of God gradually learns to pray like this in the same way that a growing child learns to talk. To pray as expected, to pray as a maturing Christian, and to pray effectively, we must say with the disciples of Luke 11:1, "Lord teach us to pray"

The Holy Spirit teaches praying people how to pray better. That's one of the applications of John 16:13 when Jesus said, "But when he the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth." Just as the plane is guided more easily when it's airborne than when its on the ground with its enginges off, so the Holy Spirit guides us in prayer to better when we are airborne in prayer than when we are not.

Also praying specifically according to what you have learned and applied with Scripture helps and praying specifically for God's glory. Know that God hears all prayer, and will answer in His time and according to His will. =)

As for nuiances of inner-voices, and signs, albeit those believers from the pentacostal/charismatic branch, in that case I recommend that one read's Charismatic Chaos, by John Macarthur for some guidance, for they are not markers to show that God has heard/answered. Faith cometh from hearing God's Word through reading His Word and sermons, than an upsurge of feelings.

I highly recommend that you read Spiritual Disciplies for the Christian Life, by Donald S. Whitney for more about prayer and also living for practical Holiness.

HOW TO PRAY???

Ask Him for help. Ask Him to teach you. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Ask Him to help you with every decision you make. Seek Him not just for answers, but to know Him. That is what He wants. To know you. As for waiting for symbols, God is capable of speaking very clearly to you. You will know when He does. Keep seeking Him.Don't give up.

Once upon a time a few years ago,I was carying a broken heart, and a crushed spirit.I was to angry to pray at all to God.But I went into a wooded place alone, and sat down on the ground for about an hour.I sat there because I could not pray,so,after a while, the words started flowing out.

I prayed for a while, and had assurance in my heart God had heard me.

So,prayer is a struggle sometimes, and like a faucet ,you open it and the water flows out.I open my heart and the words come out,I talk to God and with a respectfull heart.

So,try not to hurry, take your time and sit,and wait, the words will come out sooner or latter. And you will connect to God.

Hope that helps.
