  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey you computer techies out there, I have a question and I desparately need answers if any of you can help!

For my parents anniversary this summer, my sister and I put together a PowerPoint presentation for them, quite lengthy, about 15 minutes long, full of pictures of them growing up, dating, etc and set it to music. My mom asked if we could convert the powerpoint to a DVD so that they could play it on the regular TV and would have it for years to come. I'm pretty sure this can be done, but I don't know how or what is involved. Can I do it myself somehow or do I need to take it to someone, and if so, who do I take it to? Is there a name for that process? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks ya'll!

It kind of dependends on your hardware. If you have a stand alone DVD recorder and video out from you graphics card, that would be by far the easiest solution. Otherwise, you can convert the powerpoint presentation to a quicktime file using the mac version of powerpoint, convert it to mpeg and then use some dvd authoring software and your dvd-r to write it.

BTW, I've never done this so you might care to do a bit more research than taking my word for it .

hmmm.. I know if you have the right kind of graphics card and a cable and stuff you can hook up a VCR to your computer and record the screen, but I don't know how you would go about recording your screen to a file on the computer or what file type you would use if you were planning to burn it on a DVD... my advice is to look for a program to record the screen into a movie file

yes, like MSBS said, you'd have to go from PowerPoint to some form of video format, however taking a quick look, there doesn't seem to be a way to "save as" or "export" as a movie file (thats in the windows version..), but if this is true:

So, if I convert the powerpoint presentation to a .mpeg file, it will automatically play in a DVD player? Or is there anything else special that I need to do to it? Thanks so much for your help guys! I really appreciate it!

kinda, but you have to write it as a DVD-Video format DVD, cos otherwise it won't have to overhead files need for it to be read by a standalone DVD player!

What CD/DVD burning software do you use? ..many have the option to create a DVD-Video disc, if not, then use Nero Burning Rom, b'cos it can

It's a little more complex than that. VideoCDs, like DVDs, have a standard structure the files should be in on the disc. If you can find a way to convert your powerpoint show to mpeg1 (i think the save as quicktime then converting method above is your best chance), then you would use software like nero to autmatically create the video cd from the mpeg file for you. I use nero to burn video cds fairly often; it has a wizard to create them. I imagine that most other CD burning software would have something similar.
