  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Rachel eyed the two goths as they passed by the punch bowl. She thought back to how she and Jenny had grown up as next door neighbors, then Rachel moved to the other side of town and they slowly grew apart.

"Sup freak," Rachel said with a smirk before taking a sip of her punch.

"Hello freak," Jenny replied politely, taking the glass that Grace handed to her and lifting it in a mock toast before taking a sip herself.

They each gave the other a look for a few moments. Eventually, Grace said something that Jenny didn't catch all of and dragged her off by the arm. Rachel debated on staying there longer, but finally gave up, throwing her glass in the trash and heading back into the gym to dance with her friends some more.

Chrissy fealt a lump forming in her throat. How could she let this happen?? She had never told anyone about her power before, and now this guy thought she was a freak because of it. She had let her shield drop lower than she had in years, and look what it did to her!! She hadn't trusted anyone since her mother's death. Maybe that was just the way things were meant to be. She raised her shield once again and shouted after him.

"Oh yeah?? Well, who's the freak??? Your the one who brought me out here to tell me you control weather. Now that's freaky, you freak. So then, I expose my deepest secret to you, and you turn into a jerk!! You'll regret that, ya hear!! You'll be sorry!!"

With that she ran towards the fence, away from him, awat from everyone. She didn't stop until she reached the park. She sat down on a swing and criedi the moonlight.

"I saw you at the park. I wonder if the caterpillar went to heaven, or hell?" Jade mulled over her own question. "It must have gone to heaven. Caterpillars don't do anything to land them in hell."
Sarah had always thought of Jade as a little wacked.

"O.K., well, ummm.... I think I'm gonna go get some punch. I ummm.. guess I'll see you around, alright."

Sarah walked off and headed for the girls bathroom.

Alex was upset, but he felt bad about making Crissy cry, so he decide to run after her.

"I should know better than to mess with the fragile mind of the teenage girl."

Alex wasn't the fastest kid in his school but he was faster than a girl in a dress and high heels, so he was able to follow her to the park.

Soon he reached the park. Crissy was sitting on the swing, crying her eyes out. Alex sighed, walk over to the swing next to her and sat down.

"Listen, I'm sorry I yelled at you. I didn't really mean it. ITs just been really hard for my family, with my sister. You caught me off guard and I just over reacted. "

"You must think I'm a pretty big jerk. You told me your secret and i rejected you. But all you'd have to do is check my past to see that I'm a pretty nice guy.I'm really, really sorry."

Chrissy couldn't look at him, she just couldn't. She didn't blame him. She wanted to let him know it was okay. It was just that everything that had happened with her family had scarred her, and she would never be allowed to forget it. She took a deep breath and looked up at him, mascara running down her cheeks.

"This is much bigger than you, Alex. This is me.... my family. It's not your fault. I just-"

She couldn't continue. Her heart was breaking again as her mother's memmory rang through her mind, and it hurt.

A little wacked... A little wacked? Jade smiled to herself. No, she was much more than that. Much more than 'a little wacked'. You could almost call her delusional, maybe insane. Witches don't exist. But she does. Pyros aren't real. But there's one going to the bathroom right now. And Jason...Jade blinked sorrowfully, thinking of her friend. People like Jason shouldn't have to be like Jason.

Chrissy let the tears fall freely as Alex hugged her. They sat there on the swings for a long time until her ceel phone interupted the silence.

"Oh, shoot!!"

She reached down to her hand bag and pulled out her glittery pink phone.

"Hello?" she asked, wiping her tears with her hand.

"Is this Ms. Landers??"

"Yes, who wants to know."

Short silence and a sigh. "This is Officer Freedman. Is Mr. Landers your husband??"

"No, he's my father, why is something wrong??"

"Well... look, is your mom there??"

"No, she's not."

"I can't give you all the details, but we have your father detained at the station, and whe will not be retunring home for at least a few days. Do you have your mom's number for me to call??"

"No, she... she's gone. It's just my father and I now."

"Okay, do you need a place to stay for now until things can be settled??"

Chrissy was getting frustrated now.

"What things!! Please tell me what's going on!!"

"Miss, you can hear it from your father tomorrow or at the hearing-"

"Hearing?!?!?! Oh man."

"Miss, I must insist that you find a relatve to stay with."

"I, I don't have any other family." tears began to fall again. "Please, what is happening??"

"As I said, I can't give the details to a minor, but if you come down to the station, someone from DCF will find ayou a place to stay for now until things are resolved."

"Um, ya, okay. Sure." she hung up andf looked at Alex and threw her hands up in the air. "I HATE MY LIFE!!"

((I know neither of my characters have come into any contact with anyone else's characters yet...I'm not that great at subtle ways of having characters meet. I'm trying, I promise. :p))

"Must we go in there?" Jenny asked in an annoyed tone as Grace peeked through the windows in the gym doors.

"I'm still debating," Grace replied as he nose touched the glass accidently, "I might need a smoke first."

"Well, make up your mind," Jenny sighed. She found that the older she got and the more she developed her power in communicating with animals, the more awkward she ended up feeling around humans. There were only two people, ever, that knew about her power. The first was Rachel, as the two had been best friends throughout elementary school, and she had a power of her own. The second was a boy who was part of a foreign exchange program. He was here for a semester at the beginning of Jenny's freshman year, and he was a vegitarian. Oddly, he was super popular but he found time to hang out with Jenny, and even Grace as well. He had caught Jenny talking with her pets once when he stopped by to visit. He never told anyone else and for that Jenny considered him a close friend.

"Yeah, definitely need a smoke first," Grace finally answered, snapping Jenny out of her memories, "Let's go out to my car."

They headed outside to Grace's car, and it was painfully obvious that they weren't the only ones with that bright idea. It was surprising though that the part-time security guard that hung out around the school in the afternoon wasn't present earning some overtime.

A slow song came on and Rachel found herself as a third wheel as her friends with dates assumed the slow dance position. Rachel smiled and shook her head as she walked over to the bleachers and took a seat near the top, waiting for the better music to come back on.

"These boy bands are going to make rip my ears off," she mumbled to herself, fanning herself with her hands in an ineffective attempt to cool off.

Chrissy stared at Alex, tears in her eyes.

"My father...he- he's been arrested. I have no where to stay, so they're gonna put me in faster care!!"

She sobbed and wrapped her arms around him, crying on his shoulder.
"Are you alright? Do you need a place to stay? We have an extra room at our house and my caring parents would be more than happy to help you out."

Alex replied out of pure instinct.
