  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"Hi, I'm Tim, and I have a problem..."

Anyone else an admitted powergamer who feels the need to find all secrets as well as attain uber heights and smash through a game unimpeded?

This is generally an RPG phenomenon, but it can probably apply to most genres.

Games like Diablo and Dungeon Siege especially have brought out the worst in me, although I think it started way back in the Dragon Warrior/Final Fantasy days on NES.

Hi Tim. :) Yes, I have the same problem. There's beating a game and completing a game. Alot of people can beat a game, but completing one, which is getting everything, is a skill all itself. I sometimes can't even put up a game until I complete it. Fullfilling...yet time consuming.

i also have a problem:
Pro Evolution Soccer 4 - i had to go a whole master league season being undeafeted before i could stop playing it whenever i had any free time!
Gand Theft Auto: San Andreas - i had to get the 100% before i could stop!
Final Fantasy X - i had to build my characters up so they were UBER!
Final Fantasy VII - i had to beat all the weapons!
Sonic (any of them) - i had to get all the emeralds!

its a very irritating thing to get into as there are so many more constructive things to do with my time!!

I'm definitely a powergamer myself. I can't put down a game until I've found every little secret and completely maxed out my characters. It takes me forever to really complete a game after I've started. Recently, many games have been designed in a way to make it virtually impossible to do this, and that has really frustrated me.

I have that problem, I will beat a game but i want to go back and get maximum amounts possible. Like on FFVIII, I had to have characters all 6 of them on level 99 with maximum stats. Speed included, the only stat I did not maximize was Luck, that would probaly take years. :)
