Potty Training

Dd has been slow to train, but admitedly she has dealt with a lot. Not long after she started training she fell and had an injury that took months of healing. Recently my husband has traveled a lot on business which was hard for her to deal with.
We are making more progress now, but this three yearold hates public toilets and squeals she will fall in...Yes she is a bit of a drama queen

Anyhoo how do I work with that will have the least effect on her positive progress. I looked online, but didn't see much help there

Have the little seatee sitting right next to the big one... and when you go, take her with you, so that you too can visit while doing your thing. Get her comfortable with the routine. Then one day when she is starting to go to the little one by herself, like a big girl, congratulate her with the opportunity to use yours. If she sees it as a privilege,.. you are on your way.

My oldest DS was like this for a time...we just made a habit of carrying a portable potty with us....http://www99.shopping.com/xPF-Cool_Icam_Travel_Potty is the one we used. I was able to carry it in the diaper bag (we had another DS only 16 months younger) and he would just use that when we were out and about. It also worked well because he could use it in the back of our vehicle if necessary as well.

At this moment in time you should start by taking her out of diapers and into underwear, always have a change of clothes prepared and a plastic bag, if she soils herself she is the one that has to clean it up, this is one of the biggest incentives to learn to use the toilet, because no child likes to clean-up after their own mess.

This is one technique we've used in the preschool I used to work in.

I had looked up the travel potties so they may be something I should go ahead and purchase. She is just now starting to bm in the potty and I am thrilled needless to say, but I will remember the idea of having her clean her own panties.

We have a Potette Plus for travel times, and a Baby Bjorn at home... and got a potty here at my parents - which hasnt seen a lot of use as of late due to some set backs we had.

We're doing more of EC at this point, but considering how tall Jonathan is getting, it won't be too long before he HAS to be out of diapers because I wont be able to afford a larger size for him within the EU. They do make smaller undies for EC at his age (thank goodness!) and they run about 1-2 Euro for a pair or two, depending where you purchase in Germany.

For now what we had been doing was keeping the little potty across from the big one, and first thing in the mornings, or when I have to go, sitting him on it. If he goes, AWESOME!! - if not, we just encourage to try again after he's made an effort.

We had made a lot of progress before coming to the US, and once we got here, he regressed a lot, so we just took a more relaxed attitude. With teething, we're also set back a lot (6 at once, with some being molars) so I look for it to be a long process, of which we will try to take a really relaxed stance with. I'm planning on getting an extra potty to keep on hand on the opposite end of the house, since our square footage is rather large, and it is a long walk or crawl for someone under 2 to get to the potty in time when they actually *do* signal.

We are having trouble figuring out when he has to pee, but catching BM is pretty easy if we can get him there in time.

My sister is nannying and her almost 2 yr old is potty training and had a setback today, she intentionally had a BM in her undies because she did not want to take the effort to go to the potty, and had been going solidly for 2 weeks without wetting her pull ups.

There is a group of forums out there if you may be interested in EC (Elimination Communication) and they might be of help to you. I find they have some really great ideas and are very supportive, no matter if you are beginning EC at birth or closer to 3.

We put a porta potty in the back of our SUV for our DD because we had a fear of public toilets. LOL I've also seen a little thing that folds up that is like a toilet seat but you put it on top of the public toilet seat. Don't know if that will allieviate her fears or not.
